She Got His Time, I Lost My Child 15
Julian showed up uninvited while I was in the middle of a TV interview. It was my first official appearance as the daughter of Hayfield’s wealthiest man, and every media outlet wanted the exclusive. I had no idea how he’d gotten wind of the location, but there he was. Although he wore a suit and a tie, the exhaustion on his face gave everything away. In fact, his clothes were wrinkled. While I was doing my interview, he started yelling in front of everyone. “Chloe, come down right now! Stop embarrassing yourself! That’s the seat of the richest man’s daughter. How dare you sit there?” Everyone around Julian turned to stare like he was a madman. However, he became excited, thinking he had done the right thing. That is, until the reporter asked me, “Ms. Wilkins, your father has done an incredible job protecting your identity. It’s hard to believe this is your very first public appearance.” Julian stood dumbfounded. A few people started recognizing him as the man from that viral scandal video. They looked at him with pure disdain. The interview soon ended. Julian finally snapped out of his daze. The way he looked at me now—like a starving dog spotting a bone—was disgusting. There was even a hint of affection. “Chloe, why did you keep your identity from me? Let’s not dwell on the past. I’m willing to let it go. I’m ready to forgive you. How about we get married again?” My brows furrowed in disbelief. “Julian, is your memory so bad? Do you need me to remind you that between us lies our dead daughter?” He licked his lips, eyeing the car keys in my hand with a greedy gleam. “Look, we can always have more kids if you want. That’s not a problem. You love me, Chloe. You know you do. Who else could you possibly be with? “I was tricked by Tiffany, that conniving bitch. Don’t worry. Let’s start over together. We’ll run the company side by side.” I interrupted him. “Julian, do you really think I don’t know what you’ve been up to? You and Tiffany had all those dirty little schemes. Did you think they were well hidden? I know far more than you think.” Julian froze as he clearly hadn’t expected that from me. I continued, “Do you think I’d fall for that fake sincerity again? You lost the right to call yourself a husband or a father a long time ago.” Julian opened his mouth to protest, but the weight of my gaze caused his voice to die in his throat. I took a deep breath and added, “I’m not giving you another chance to hurt me. This is over. Leave. Whatever we had is gone.” Julian stood there helplessly while I got in my car and drove off. I wasn’t giving him another chance. From this moment on, I was stepping into a new chapter where Julian no longer existed. And this time, I was ready.
