Chapter 6
With that, Arthur pushed me aside roughly. I stumbled backward. Just as I was about to fall, someone held the steady. I heard Peter whispering in my ear.
“Honey, sorry for being late.”
“Honey?” Arthur glared at Peter’s arms around me, and he yelled even louder than ever. “Susan! You’d best explain yourself and tell me what’s going on!”
I shot back impatiently, “What for? We’ve already broken up. Have you forgotten?”
Arthur’s expression immediately turned nasty. Then, he sneered, “Break up? Did I agree to it? Even if we did break up, it’s only been a day, yet you were so eager to find yourself some random man. Susan, are you that desperate? We’ve been together for five years. Does our relationship really mean nothing to you?”
Next to Arthur, Jenny exclaimed in exaggeration, “My goodness! Susan, even if you’re throwing a tantrum with Arthur, you don’t have to be so… desperate and lower your standards. People will be laughing at you, don’t you think?”
Arthur was the one who betrayed me and got together with Jenny. Now, it seemed like I was the one who had cheated on him.
Since we were in public, I didn’t want to make things worse. In fact, I was prepared to drag Peter off and leave the shop.
But Jenny refused to let this opportunity slide. She blocked us from leaving and deliberately raised her voice. “Ms. Parker, I know you’re rich and powerful. There are always men willing to be with you. But Arthur loved you so much. How could you do this to him? Also, while you did ask for a breakup, Arthur never agreed to it. I want you to apologize to him right now!”
Arthur glared at me as if he was waiting for me to explain myself.
The surrounding crowd gradually drew closer to us. They began criticizing me and Peter as if we were having an affair.
My hands began to tremble uncontrollably, and I gripped my sleeve’s tightly.
Sensing my discomfort, Peter comforted me softly. “Don’t be scared.”
Peter wasn’t a good–tempered man. Earlier, I kept shooting him meaningful glances, hinting for him to stay calm. That was why he was able to hold himself back. But after seeing my reaction, Peter could no longer hold back his anger. He strode forward and punched Arthur hard in the face.
Since Arthur hadn’t expected that from Peter, he collapsed to the ground hard.
“Arthur!” Jenny shrieked as she threw herself at him and sobbed non–stop. “Susan, all we did was say a few words to you. How could you let your crazy man hit Arthur?”
Arthur licked the blood from the corner of his lips. Just as he was about to get up and return the punch, Peter kicked him again.
Then, Peter took our marriage certificate and thrust it before Arthur’s eyes. “Give this a proper look. Susan and I are legally married. If you dare make things up about us again, just wait for our lawyer’s letter!”
Arthur was taken aback. He reached out to snatch the marriage certificate from Peter, who deftly moved it out of his reach.
Peter sneered, “What now? Dr. Campbell, don’t you know what a marriage certificate looks like?”
“You can just buy a replica of this online. Do you think I’ll believe you?” With that, Arthur looked at me and yelled, “Susan, quickly come here! Must you stay with him and humiliate yourself like this?”
At that moment, Jenny suddenly clutched her stomach and cried in pain, “Arthur… My stomach really hurts…”
Arthur hurried over to check on her. Peter took advantage of the distraction and quickly dragged me away from the crowd.
As we were about to leave the mall, I gradually began to calm down. I looked up and noticed the contact number for the mall’s advertising space. Suddenly, I
smirked.
A few minutes later, several large screens around the mall began playing the intimate video Jenny had sent to me. Although Arthur quickly had someone stop the video from playing, it had already gone viral on the internet.
In less than an hour, the netizens had already dug up everything about Arthur and Jenny.
