Chapter 8
“Mom!” Arthur interrupted Avril loudly. “Susan’s my fiancée. You can’t insult her like that!”
He began massaging his temples in frustration. “I was the one who made a mistake. Susan’s just throwing a tantrum. I’ll convince her to come back.”
Upon hearing Arthur, Jenny could no longer hold herself back. She covered her mouth and began to sob.
As for Fred, he set his cup down loudly. “A tantrum? She ruined both our families! You even lost your job. You’re still taking her side?”
Arthur suddenly got to his feet. His eyes had turned red. “Dad, I don’t care about all that. But I can’t live without Susan…”
His voice became choked up, and he fell back onto the couch. Everyone watched in shock as Arthur, a man who had always been calm and composed, lowered his head and covered his face. His shoulders started trembling, and he began to sob quietly.
Fred and Avril slumped back onto the couch. They exchanged glances without a word and shook their heads.
Jenny asked in between sobs, “Arthur, even if Susan’s already married, don’t you want me anymore?”
Arthur instantly tensed, and he turned around to glare at Jenny hatefully. “Shut up! If you hadn’t secretly filmed that video and sent it to Susan, would she have left me? I was drunk that night. Whatever I said wasn’t even the truth!”
He pointed at her and said in a shaky voice, “I was really blind. I never saw how devious you could be! Get lost! Get out now!”
Jenny widened her eyes in horror as she continued crying.
Arthur used to be gentle and was considerate of everything with her. Now, his expression had twisted into a terrifying scowl.
“Arthur, you never treated me this way.”

“You’re so annoying A
Arthur tugged at his hair in anger. “You’re already 23, but you only know how to cry all day. Do you think you’re still a toddler or something?
Suddenly, he recalled that I had never once cried in front of him. The only time I did was when I was locked up in the kitchen. At the time, Arthur was also out of his mind from frustration, but he was still upset that he had made me cry.
Jenny suddenly clutched her stomach and began shrieking, “It hurts! Little one, don’t scare me…
There she went again.

Arthur merely sneered. Then, he covered his ears and got to his feet. Under everyone’s shocked gaze, he went out and slammed the door without looking back.
the most important thing was to get me back.
Right now,
Meanwhile, Peter had planned our schedule down to the minute. Once we were done selecting our wedding rings, he quickly took me to a bridal boutique without missing a beat.
I slumped against the velvet couch and complained, “Mr. Sullivan, it’s already nighttime. Can’t we try on the clothes tomorrow?” Peter unbuttoned his blazer with one hand. He raised an eyebrow as he exclaimed, “No way! I’m afraid you’ll change your mind.”
I smiled helplessly. “Am I that untrustworthy in your eyes? We’re already legally married.
Peter nodded earnestly. “Yes.
I tossed a pillow at him, which he caught steadily. Then, he pulled me up from the couch. “Don’t even think about running away. Go and try on the dress.”
A while later, when the shop assistant slowly pulled the curtains aside, Peter suddenly went silent outside the fitting room. I stepped out in a Lacorian vintage wedding dress and noticed Peter was rooted to the same spot. He gulped hard before walking closer to me.
He gently wrapped his arms around me as he said hoarsely, “Two years ago, I won the bid for this wedding dress at Solazia’s auction. I was thinking how gorgeous you’d look in the dress.”
The shop assistants covered their mouths to muffle their giggles. My cheeks were burning as I hurriedly buried my face against his chest.
At that moment, the glass doors suddenly burst open.
“Let her go!” Arthur dashed over furiously and was about to grab me. But I stepped aside in disgust. Seeing that he didn’t manage to grab me, pain flashed through his eyes.
