Chapter 50
D
“Miss Morgan, I’m no longer employed by your company. If you want to sue me, be my guest.” My voice was cold as ice.
I wasn’t even remotely worried. I’d gone over every contract I signed countless times and made sure everything was airtight. Most of them had already been finalized long before Nicole even got back from overseas.}
Since taking over my parents‘ company, I’d kept in touch with many of our old clients. And from what they told me, Nicole had been running things into the ground–ignoring their concerns and jacking up prices without so much as a heads–up.
Left with no choice, they’d started looking for new suppliers.
It just so happened that I became new their supplier.
So those clients I had in Morgan Group? They were still mine.
And with those loyal clients still doing business with me, how could there possibly be a problem with the contracts I signed?}
On the other end of the line, Nicole was clearly so furious. I could hear her ragged breathing through the phone.
“Ryan Anderson, I order you to get over here right now!” she shouted, completely losing her cool.
I chuckled lightly. “Sorry, Miss Morgan. But I’m currently out of town. I’m afraid I couldn’t make it.”}
“And as for the issues your company’s dealing with–well, that’s not my problem anymore. If you think it all stems from my time as CEO, feel free to sue me.”
With that, I didn’t even wait for her response. I hung up.
I went right back to my work.”
Ever since I moved back home, my dad had basically dumped the majority of the company’s operations on me. He even transferred his shares of the company to me.”
Now, I was officially the man in charge.
Taking over the business left me with barely any time to breathe, let alone worry about Nicole and whatever mess she’d created.
So I didn’t bother giving her another thought.}
I thought that would be the end of it—but just an hour later, my phone rang again. This time, it was Mr. Morgan.
“Ryan, the company’s hit a little snag. We need you to step in,” he said with a friendly chuckle. “Come back for a bit, will you?“}
“Sorry, Mr. Morgan. I’ve already got a lot on my plate. Can’t take on any more,” I replied coolly.
That’s when his tone shifted. “Ryan, I know what Nicole did to you wasn’t fair.”
“But try to understand–she never loved you. Her heart has always belonged to someone else. Look, if you agree to come back, I’ll arrange a position for you at the company.“}
He was practically begging at this point.
I couldn’t help but laugh to myself.2
Clearly, something serious had gone wrong at the Morgan Group—serious enough that Mr. Morgan had to personally reach out to me.”
But I wasn’t about to get roped back into their mess.
“Like I said, Mr. Morgan, I’m really busy. And I’m not interested in working for your cornpany again.”}
They’d already kicked me out–why should I go running back now?}
“Ryan, be realistic,” he pleaded. “You know your background. You’ve got no formal education, no big connections. Out there, you’ll only ever land small gigs. But here–we’re offering you a real opportunity. Don’t throw it away.”
I gave a short laugh. He had no idea how much the company I now ran was worth–how much more powerful I’d become than their precious Morgan Group.
When he realized I wasn’t budging, he got desperate.
“Ryan, truth is… Nicole still has feelings for you. If you come back, I’ll talk to her–convince her to divorce Drew and marry you.“@
I burst out laughing.
The Morgans never fails to amaze me with their arrogance. They really thought that all it would take was their “approval” for me to go crawling back?%
But I wasn’t the same person anymore. I had long since lost all interest in Nicole. In fact, the only thing I felt now was pure disgust.
When I didn’t say anything, Mr. Morgan grew more anxious and started pleading.
