Chapter 11
The grainy footage played before him, revealing a truth that sent a bone–deep chill through his veins.
The person who had harmed Onyx wasn’t Adeline.
It was the very woman he had trusted without hesitation–Gianna.
The memory of the slap he had given me, the way my tear–filled eyes blurred with sorrow, clawed at Felix’s chest like a relentless vice. An unbearable pain twisted inside him.§
His hands trembled, his rage uncontrollable, as he hurled the phone straight at Gianna’s face.
“This is what you meant by Adeline and Henry bullying Onyx?” he roared, his voice sharp and fury.”
“I never thought you’d stoop so low, hurting your own child just to frame Adeline!“}
Without hesitation, he seized Onyx by the collar, lifting him off the ground as his cold eyes bore into the boy.
“And you! Already lying at such a young age, just like your mother, drowning in deceit!“}]
With a heartless shove, he pushed Onyx back into Gianna’s arms. Then, without sparing them another glance, he reached into his pocket, pulled out a card and flung it at their feet.
“If it weren’t for you, do you think my Adeline would have ever left me?“>
“The money on this card is more than enough for you and Onyx until he comes of age.“}
“Take him and disappear. I don’t want to see either of you for now!“}]
Without another glance, Felix turned and walked away, just as he had once done to me and Henry.”
At that very moment, I was stepping off a plane in a foreign land, the weight of my past finally slipping from my shoulders.
The moment my feet touched the ground, it felt as if I had been reborn. That rotten marriage, that faithless man, I had left them behind.“] From now on, I would live for myself and for Henry.”
At the airport, David Shepherd spotted Henry’s injuries and the sheer anguish in his eyes made his entire body tremble.
Without hesitation, he ushered us into his car and drove straight to the hospital.
Thankfully, Henry’s wounds weren’t too serious.
While the doctors cleaned his injuries, David stood by his side; worry etched deep into his face.
Henry winced and let out a small cry of pain. David turned away, secretly wiping at his eyes.}]
I couldn’t help but find it amusing. “What’s there to cry about?” I teased.
He looked at me then, his red–rimmed eyes filled with emotions he didn’t voice.”
At that moment, a long–buried memory surfaced of the night seven years ago when I had foolishly agreed to Felix’s proposal.
He had looked at me with that same expression back then.
A sudden warmth crept up my face and I instinctively averted my gaze.
Once Henry’s wounds were treated, David took us to the place he had arranged for us.§
After making sure we were settled, he left quietly, saying nothing.
From that day on, he came almost every day, helping me care for Henry.”
He even found a highly reputable rehabilitation hospital for him.”
Although Henry would never regain the intelligence he once had, with persistent training, there was still hope that he could at least take care of himself one day.
But the reality was far harsher than I had imagined.
