He stopped abruptly.
He noticed the surveillance screen showing an empty street.
Josephine was gone.
They lost track of her.
While Michael was ordering a citywide search for Josephine, she was relaxing in a five–star hotel. After taking a long, soothing bath, she sprawled on the sofa, cuting cake while enthusiastically flattering her best
friend.
“My dear Isabelle, you’re the best. You actually remembered my birthday and brought me a cake, unlike that heartless bastard Michael, who kicked me out before I could even eat the cake…”
Isabelle Sinclair, Josephine’s best friend and childhood friend, was standing behind her, blow–drying her hair
“All done,” Isabelle said. She had long black hair, exuding a cool, elegant aura befitting a classic femme fatale. She put down the blow dryer and cast a sharp glance at Josephine. “So, what’s your plan now? Are you going to break off the engagement with Michael and return to the countryside?”

Isabelle thought for a moment. “There is such a story. Its said there’s a masked devil in Junbert–a violent killer. Most of the time, he hides among regular people, blending in unnoticed. Occasionally, he emerges to harm others. He’s the most dangerous figure in the city. Don’t tell me the person you’re looking for is him.
Josephune breathed a sigh of relief. Killer or not, as long as the person was still in Junbert, it was good news.
She pressed further. “Where can I find him?”
“Are you seriously planning to do something so dangerous?” Isabelle shot her a sidelong glance, then, knowing Josephine’s stubbornness, added, “It’s just a legend. No one’s ever seen him. Hearing this. Josephine turned away and sulkily ate heecake “He’s busy cozying up to Winry. I’ll ask Jorvan before I ask him for help.”
Isabelle froze for a moment, then looked surprised. “That can’t be, Michael is famously indifferent to women. Are you saying he’s involved with Winry? He’s notoriously cold and keeps female admirers at bay. often surrounded by bodyguards just to prevent women from approaching him.”
He isn’t interested in women?
Josephine scoffed inwardly.
11ho was the man who had just pinned me to the dining table, seemingly ready to devour me whole? Oh, and he’d also touched me inappropriately while I was asleep! Pervert!
Josephine added another mental label to Michael.
Isabelle gave her a stern reminder. “Josephine, if you stay in Junbert, don’t let Michael find out you’ve been pretending to be a fool to deceive him. He’s notoriously suspicious and vengeful. There are very few people in Junbert who dare provoke him. If he finds out he’s been tricked, who knows what he might do to you.”
“Relax, he won’t come looking for me.” Josephine shrugged, utterly unconcerned.
After all, Michael had been burning with lust earlier tonight. Since he didn’t get to have sex with her, he was probably busy spending the night with Winry. Why would he care about her?
She planned to sneak back to the Jaywalker residence tomorrow to ask Jorvan about the masked man. She had to find that necklace.
The necklace was crucial. She had promised Ryan she would deliver it to her brother.
Josephine’s eyes dimmed slightly.
Her beloved elder brother was an orphan her grandfather had taken in. Handsome and intelligent, he was Ryan’s pride, treated as the heir to the Sommer family,
However, eight years ago, he inexplicably went berserk and ran out of the house, after which he disappeared.
The shock worsened Ryan’s health. On his deathbed, he held Josephine’s hand and made her promise to find her brother and bring him back to the village for treatment.

That necklace was a family heirloom. Ryan had split it in two, giving each half to her and her brother. Only by reuniting the pieces could the family inheritance be claimed.
After her brother’s mental collapse, he no longer recognized anyone except the necklace.
