At that moment, my memories suddenly flashed back to more than twenty years ago. Back then, I was just a little girl, alone, helpless, with no one to rely on. Facing the unknown dangers of the world, I had been just as terrified as Mia was now.%
My mind went blank. Without thinking, I lunged forward and grabbed Mia just in time, pulling her back from the brink of falling. The crazed smile on Zafrielle’s face disappeared instantly. For a moment, her expression twisted with rage before she reached out and shoved me. “Evelyn, don’t you want to die? Fine, I’ll help you!”
“Go to hell! As long as you’re dead, there’ll be no one left to take Joshua away from me! He should’ve been mine all along! It’s all your fault! All your fault! You should just die!” She was terrifyingly strong. With one arm holding Mia to avoid hurting her, I could barely defend myself with the other.
She forced me back step by step and just as half my foot was about to slip off the edge of the rooftop, the door burst open. Joshua was here. His face was etched with anxiety and his voice trembled, “Zafrielle, what are you doing? Let them go! I’m warning you, I’ve called the police. You better stop right now!”
Seeing Joshua’s face, Zafrielle was momentarily stunned. Then, she burst into laughter. “Joshua, you’re here! You’re finally here! Are you here to save these two bitches?”
Joshua frowned, carefully observing Zafrielle’s expression as he cautiously moved forward.
“Joshua, say you love me, say you’ll marry me and I’ll let them go!”
“In your dreams,” Joshua shot back without hesitation.W
The smile on Zafrielle’s face vanished instantly. Her eyes widened, filled with shock and fury. “Why? Why? Joshua, why are you treating me like this? What does Evelyn have that I don’t?“W
Joshua only carefully observed her movements, looking for the right time to make a move. Alas, Zafrielle had completely lost it. She continued. “You love Evelyn that much? Haha. Fine! Then let me tell you something. If I can’t have her, no one can!”
“Evelyn, go to hell! With a furious scream, she shoved me with all her strength. A gust of wind hit me and before I could react, I stumbled back, my foot slipping off the edge.
Below me was a sheer drop and the wind howled in my ears. Death was imminent. Was this really the end of my life??
