Chapter 51 It Has Nothing to Do With Me
The officer at the detention center stepped forward, intending to take Olive inside.
“I won’t go! I’m not going in! I want to go home!”

The video of Quinn being humiliated flashed through Olive’s mind. She screamed and refused to enter the detention center, as if it were filled with monsters and floodwaters, a bottomless pit she would fall into if she stepped inside.
After Quinn got out, she immediately hired a lawyer and presented all the evidence, determined to bring Olive to justice.
The day before the trial, Betty asked Quinn to meet her at the Fairchild residence.
“Quinn, are you really going to do this to Olive? She’s still so young. What will happen to her there?” Betty sat to the side, crying anxiously.
Quinn watched Betty’s actions with a cold expression, wondering if, back then, when she went in, Betty had ever been this heartbroken.
“Did you ever cry for me like this three years ago?”
At those words, Betty’s sobs stopped. She looked up and met Quinn’s eyes.
The indifference in Quinn’s gaze sent a chill through Betty’s whole body.
Betty looked away. “I…”
“She almost killed Grandpa,” Quinn cut her off, realizing she had asked a foolish question.
“She was just too afraid of losing us. That’s why she did something so stupid. Since your grandpa’s okay, can’t you let her go? I’ll make her kneel and apologize to you, would that be enough?”
As Betty spoke, she almost knelt in front of Quinn.
Quinn felt like someone had grabbed her heart with invisible hands–she couldn’t breathe from the pain. She repeated mechanically, “But she wanted to hurt Grandpa. Do you really not care?”
Seeing her begging had no effect, the usually gentle Betty actually got angry.
“Quinn, I didn’t expect you to be so heartless and cruel to your own family. Olive never suffered growing up, and this was just a mistake. And you want her to go to prison? If you insist on doing this, then I’ll treat it as if I never had a daughter like you!”
Every word struck like a blade, every sentence cut ties.
Quinn quietly watched Betty’s hysterics and replied softly, “Mom, I can never repay you for giving me life. Sitting here listening to you is my last act as your daughter. From today on, I have nothing to do with the Fairchild family.”
Betty froze. “You…”

“You brought Grandpa back?”

“He’s better off with us than in the hospital. Don’t worry, as long as our family stays safe, we won’t hurt him.”
Betty’s words sounded reasonable, but they were really a threat.
“There’s always been one question in my heart. Why am I your biological daughter, yet you’re always so biased toward Olive?”
At that, Betty looked at Quinn with a soft gaze.
But Quinn felt like she was looking through her, seeing someone else.
“You went missing when you were one. It felt like my whole world had collapsed. But thankfully, I still had Olive. She was so little, yet somehow she knew how to comfort me, how to cheer me up.”
As Betty spoke, she sank into memory. “During that time, I was so happy. It felt like she was you, like you had never been lost. But I knew she wasn’t. Do you remember, after you came back, when I had my heart surgery? Olive stayed with me all night, but you were in your room sleeping.”
She wiped her tears. “I never blamed you. I just thought, after all those years apart, you weren’t close to me anymore.”
In Betty’s heart, even though Quinn was her biological daughter, Quinn had never really bonded with her.
In this family, the only one who truly lived in Quinn’s heart was Norman.
After getting out of prison, Quinn never relied on her again. She never acted spoiled in her arms again.
The only person who could change Quinn’s expression was her grandpa, Norman.
Olive was different. If Betty showed even a little less affection toward her, Olive would get jealous. That was the daughter Betty truly wanted–a daughter she could completely have.
Misunderstood, Quinn gently pressed her hand to her chest. That night, she had kept watch the whole night and only fell asleep because she couldn’t hold on anymore. But Olive stole the credit.
“So three years ago, you made me take Olive’s place.”
At that, Betty stepped forward and hugged Quinn, slowly revealing what had happened. “Quinn, it was all my fault. I had a fight with Olive, and she ran out in anger and hit someone.”
Quinn coldly pushed her away. “That has nothing to do with me.”
“It was because you said you wanted to go to the amusement park. But that day was Olive’s concert, and she wanted me to go watch her.”
Quinn’s palms were soaked. Blood stained her fingernails.
“So you used Grandpa to threaten me, and made me go to prison in her place? Even if everything was my fault, I already paid for it for the past three years. Now she’s ruthless and wants to hurt someone, and you’re still covering for her?”
