Despite being yelled at, the man was not annoyed. He slowly sat up, his eyes roaming over me as he took his
time responding.
“You must be June. Ugh, you’re a little too skinny, but that’s all right. You quite got look. Well, I’ve still got a few
days before my work start. How about we get your parents over, meet them and then get married sometime soon?”
I was stunned, my mind struggling to process what he had just said. Marry him? I didn’t remember signing up for lottery betrothal.
My best friend, who was with me, couldn’t hold back. She slapped him hard. “You crazy old fool! What are talking about? Think June would marry a crazy dude like you?”
“Why the fuck did you hit me?! Crazy bitch, you get yourself some trouble!”
The man sprang to his feet, furious and lunged toward my friend. But she was quick–having learned self–defense, she grabbed his wrist and twisted it.
“Ow, my arm!” With a sickening crack, he collapsed to the ground, clutching his arm in pain, howling. “I’m
Darryl’s brother–in–law, damn it! You’ll regret this–he won’t let you get away with it! Ow! Let me go!”
As he struggled to reach for his phone, my friend quickly kicked him again and grabbed his phone, tossing

it aside. I took out my own phone and filmed a short video, sending it to Darryl with the message: [You have 30 minutes to get him, or I’m dealing him my way.]
We then called the movers to help move him out to the living room. After some questioning, we learned that the man was about to start working as a security guard at Darryl’s company but had nowhere to stay, so Darryl had let
him crash in my room. On top of that, he had suggested I marry this guy, Ronald, Darryl’s uncle.
I was fuming. I kicked him a few more times in frustration.
Darryl returned about 20 minutes later. When he saw his uncle sitting on the floor, his expression turned dark.
“Have you no sense of respect? How could you treat an elder like this? Get over here and apologize!”
Ronald chimed in, “That’s right! You need to kneel and apologize. Otherwise, don’t think you’re ever coming back to my house.”
I couldn’t believe my ears. I laughed dryly, “Even if every man in the world dies, I still wouldn’t set foot in
house.”
“How did I never see what a shameless man you are?” I looked to Darryl. “You want me to marry your old bachelor uncle? That’s never happening.”
your
“Come, on, June, don’t be ungrateful” Darryl’s face turned serious. “You’re just the daughter of a poor family and you’ve been with me for two years. Who else would want you? I’m introducing my uncle to you because I feel sorry for you. Though he doesn’t make as much as I do, but for someone like you, he’s more than enough.”
He looked down and let out sigh, “You can’t bear to part with me, can you? Well, I’m sorry but you know I can’t marry you. That’s why I brought him here. If you marry him, we can be a family and can still see me.”
I couldn’t believe my ear. Couldn’t bear to part with him? Where did this audacity come from? If he had told me
this before that day, I probably would have agreed, but now…all my feelings for him have vanished.
At this point, I was done with this farce. I pulled out the property deed and got straight to the point. “You think I lied about this house being mine don’t you? Well, here it is. The legit house deed. Now pack your things and get out of here.”
Darryl took the deed, his face a mixture of disbelief and confusion. “You think I’m dumb?” he scoffed and laughed lightly. “This is a fake deed, isn’t it? June, you can’t never fool me.”
