Chapter 22
Hell no! This couldn’t be happening.
I got flustered on the spot. “Hold on, Aunt Olivia. I mean, Dr. Reid. It’s nothing serious. Some ointment will do, and I can apply it myself.”
Olivia replied, “That won’t do. Don’t treat it like it’s nothing. You should take better care of yourself.”
I lay on the bed, my face turning red.
She said, “It’s just a scrape. Clean the area properly at home. Head downstairs to collect the ointment and apply it twice a day. The test results should be ready this afternoon. I’ll send them to Luther.”
I straightened my clothes and muttered, “Thanks, Dr. Reid.”
Olivia smiled meaningfully. “I’ll have a word with Luther about this.”
Hearing that made my face flush even more. She definitely knew how I got injured, and I was dying of embarrassment.
After leaving the consultation room, I made a beeline to grab the meds. All I wanted was to get out of the hospital as soon as possible.
I was still on my way home when Luther’s call came through.
“What do you want?” I snapped, my tone sharper than I meant.
The line went silent for a moment before he asked coldly, “Did you wake up and choose violence or what?”
I took a deep breath. “Why did you call?”
Luther replied, “She told me you’re fine, and it’s just a scrape. You got the ointment, right?”
“Yes.”
“Tonight…” He trailed off for a moment. “I’ve got a meeting.”
I had no idea what he was about to say, but since he was busy, I figured I shouldn’t hold him up. “Okay.”
After he ended the call, I headed back to Woodmont Crest. When I got home and tried to apply the ointment, I realized there were places I couldn’t reach
or even see.
Luther came back just before 10:00 pm. I heard the door and stepped out in my pajamas, having just finished applying my ointment.
As he changed his shoes, he asked, “Did you put on the ointment?”
I responded, “I did.”
I grabbed his coat and put it away. Then, he said from behind me, “Let me have a look.”
! turned around. “It’s fine.”
“Coine on. Show me.”
The next thing I knew, he picked me up in his arms. I struggled and protested, “You don’t have to. Put me down.”
Luther looked up and smirked. “Weren’t you waiting for me?”
I frowned and turned my face away, whispering just loud enough to hear, “I just put on the ointment. My pajama pants kind of get in the way.”
“Where’s the ointment?”
“Don’t worry about it. It’s fine as it is.”
He rolled up his sleeves and walked away. A moment later, he came back from the bathroom with the ointment. “Don’t move. Lie down.”
A cold sensation hit me. He had brought more than just the ointment. “Aunt Olivia said it’ll heal faster if I rub off the top layer before applying.”
I asked, “Hold on. Why didn’t she tell me that?”
Luther remarked. “You got flustered and took off before she could finish telling you everything.”
After he was done, he started cleaning and disinfecting everything all over again.
He got up and looked into my eyes. “Adeline headed home. Things weren’t perfect this time, but it all worked out in the end.”
Finally, I didn’t have to deal with Adeline anymore.
I was feeling pretty good until Luther hit me with the news. “She is attending the Hilstone Airshow too. You’ll need to handle the arrangements and touch base with her about the stay and everything else.”
I was dying to rant. Why was the universe so obsessed with throwing her in my path?
But with Luther right there, I had to stay professional. “No problem.”
On the day of the airshow, Adeline had already arrived in Jaloria the day before and flew with us to Hilstone.

When we were getting our boarding passes, she insisted on sitting next to Luther, claiming she needed to discuss some work with him. Her intention was so obvious that she might as well announce her little scheme with a megaphone.
As expected, she was back to her usual drama the second we boarded.
