Chapter 10%
“It’s not me–it’s Brooke. She wants to talk business with you.“\
My face contorted a little in confusion.§
‘What kind of business does someone like me–a web novel writer–possibly have with the only daughter of the richest family in New York?‘
Brooke cleared her throat. “So here’s the thing. On behalf of Blount Entertainment, I want to buy the adaptation rights to all of your unpublished works. Just the adaptation rights, of course,” she explained casually.
My brain short–circuited for a second. I just… didn’t know how to respond.
‘All of them? Does this girl have any idea how many novels I’ve written just to make a living?!‘
Maybe I stayed quiet for too long because she seemed to think I was unwilling.§
She frowned a little and spoke again, “Miss B, I—“}
‘Miss B? Wait… is she actually one of my readers?!”
“Shea, she’s been your fan for over 10 years now. You’re really not gonna grant her this tiny wish?” Helga chimed in, clearly teasing me.§
‘I knew it…”
“I just really want to buy the adaptation rights to your books! I don’t want anyone else messing them up, you know. Once I fully take over the company, I’ll have everything adapted to screen with you as the screenwriter! You can even pick the leads! So, what do you think? Come on, sell them to me!“S
“Uh… S–Sure.”[
“Wait, seriously? You’re saying yes?“>
“Mm–hm.”
‘Of course she’s the heiress. She really knows how to throw money around. Damn, I’m about to strike gold!‘
Just as I was silently celebrating, I suddenly remembered the news I saw earlier.§
“Oh, right–I just saw something in the news…”
“You mean Kurt? I had him sent over.“}
‘Huh?‘
“Well, he brought it on himself. He tried some shady stuff to steal my dad’s shares, got caught red–handed, and got kicked out on the spot. Ugh, that little illegitimate brat! No idea where he got the nerve.§
“Then I remembered that toxic friend of yours–Vicky, right? So I sent him over to her. Thought it’d be fun to see some mutual destruction.§ “Barely six months in, and Kurt lost his damn mind. Took your backstabbing friend down with him! Gotta admit, that’s kinda impressive. “Anyway, let’s stop talking about him. He’s getting the death penalty in a few days. Total bad vibe.
“So, Miss B, can I please see your latest draft? Waiting for your updates is torture!”
Her hopeful puppy–dog eyes broke me, and I instinctively opened my draft folder.
“Miss B! You’re the best! I’m diving in now!”
“Hey! No spoilers, okay?!”
“Got it, got it!“2
