Chapter 8
‘So apparently, they thought I was the one who made B&B sue Vicky? What kind of power do they think I have–CEO of Karma, Inc.?!‘}
I just sighed. “Sir, Ma’am, look. She only owes me 30K now. Whatever penalties Blount & Bluebell Press slapped on her, that’s between her and them. You should be talking to them. Not to me. Please, don’t show up at my place again–next time, I will call the cops.”
But something didn’t sit right. Vicky had gone suspiciously quiet lately. Her parents stopped showing up too.”
I had this gnawing feeling in my chest… like a storm was coming.
So I called the same private investigator again to keep tracking her.
‘I need to stay ahead of that bitch!‘
I had been reborn, and yet she almost tricked me again. Honestly, I felt so stupid.§
The next day, I got a message from the private investigator.}
[She’s coming to your place. In a wheelchair.]
‘I knew it!‘
My heart tightened, and irritation rose sharply in my chest.
Vicky was like a venomous snake that just wouldn’t die–always waiting for a chance to bite me again!}
I checked the security cameras inside and outside my place.
There she was. She had clearly lost a lot of weight and looked completely drained–probably just out of the hospital.
So then I alerted Helga.”
“Shea… I’m here to apologize.“}
‘Huh? Apologize my ass!‘”
“I was wrong. I shouldn’t have been jealous of you. Shouldn’t have used your name to sign that contract. I know I messed up. I’m so, so sorry. Can you forgive me? Can we please go back to being best friends again?”
Her voice sounded sincere. A single tear even dropped from her eyes when she lowered her head.§
“Oh absolutely not,” I replied frankly. I didn’t want to play along with her drama. “You lived off me, used me, then stabbed me in the back, Vicky. And now you think one sad little ‘sorry‘ is gonna fix that? What kind of fantasy are you living in?”
I rolled my eyes and sneered in sarcasm.
Then she looked up–eyes red and deranged.}
“Then can you just die?!“}
I gasped and instinctively tried to run–but the door had somehow been locked.
And then, I caught a flash of metal.}
I dodged just in time, but the blade caught my arm, and in that instant, blood gushed everywhere!
It was clear in her eyes–she looked livid.”
She stood right up from the wheelchair and advanced on me.}
“You should die! You should’ve died a long time ago! If it weren’t for you, my mom and my dad… They wouldn’t have killed themselves! Die, bitch! Die!”
Her crazed expression grew more intense the more fear I showed.}
Not long after, she had me cornered.
While she paused, I took the opportunity to kick her hard. I bolted for the door, shouting, “Hello?! Somebody help, please?!”
Her expression darkened, and she immediately ran after me.”
My heart felt like it was going to explode as I ran downstairs.
I barely made it to the street. When I saw lights flashing reds and blues, my knees gave out in relief.
Even while the cops dragged away, Vicky thrashed and screamed that she was going to kill me.
1 just sat by the roadside, still trembling but the crushing weight in my heart finally lifting.
But as long as that psycho was free, I could never feel safe.!!
In this life, only one of us can survive.
“Shea! Are you okay?”B
“Ma’am! You’re amazing!”
I looked up and saw Helga running over and panting.
Someone else was standing beside her
“Wait… that guy.
I recognized him from earlier. He had been standing nearby, watching as Vicky was taken away “You’re…?“%
“Allow me to formally introduce myself. June Kemper, Private Investigator from the Truth Detective Agency.”
