In the business world, the Ford Family was powerful. Just one move from them could shake the whole industry. Their businesses were spread across the country and their wealth and connections ran deep.
The older generation of the Ford Family was very traditional. They cared a lot about family background when it came to marriage. They were determined to find a wife for Richard who could match their family status and help grow their business.
I learned all this later.
When Richard took Emily to meet his parents, they were clearly unhappy. Their faces turned cold as soon as they saw her. Tey didn’t treat her kindly at all. Richard tried to fight for Emily and he argued with his family for a long time. But in the end, the pressure was too much.
My family wasn’t as rich as the Ford Family, but we had a good reputation in the business world. Our companies had many chances to work together. After thinking about it many times, Richard chose to marry me. He wanted to protect Emily and also make peace with the Ford Family elders.
After we got married, I put all my energy into our family and the Ford business. I believed we had a good marriage. Richard played the role of a good husband so well. Even when there were rumors about him, he always had excuses that made sense.
Because of that, I didn’t believe any of the gossip about him.
That was why meeting Emily hit me so hard. I was completely disappointed. Frankly, I was heartbroken.”
Richard was still thinking about her. He kept in touch with her behind my back. To stop the Ford Family from finding out about her, he created fake stories and rumors about other women to cover up the truth. He used those women to hide his real secret.}

I looked at Dominic, took a deep breath and nodded to accept his offer for coffee. By the time we finished, the sky was already dark. Dominic offered to drive me home. On the way, his cheerful laugh and light jokes helped me feel a bit better.”

Dominic got out of the car quickly and opened the door for me. Then, he walked me to the front of my house.
He turned slightly, smiled and asked gently, “Aren’t you going to invite me in for a drink?“}
Before I could say anything, I heard a familiar voice behind me, saying, “Harriet, don’t forget you’re still a married woman.“}
My whole body froze. I turned around slowly and saw Richard standing there. Under the dim streetlights, he looked terrible. His face was full of exhaustion and worry. His eyes looked at me with so many mixed emotions.
I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.
I turned to Dominic first and said, “You should go. Thank you for today.”
Dominic looked at Richard, then at me. I saw worry in his eyes, but he nodded and walked back to his car. I didn’t plan to invite Richard inside.
But he walked in without asking.
As soon as he stepped into the house, he laughed coldly and said, “Harriet, you seem to be enjoying life without me.“}
“Do you know how hard I’ve been looking for you?“}
I found his words funny. This was very ironic. Somehow, I almost laughed. But I quickly held it in.”
Instead, I asked him in return, “Richard, you’ve been looking for me?”
Without stopping, I made a sarcastic remark, “Isn’t your wife Emily now?”
“Just go back and take care of her. And while you’re at it, sign the divorce papers,” I coldly told him.
When he heard that, his face turned pale.”
Richard shouted in frustration, “What nonsense are you saying?”
“Harriet, you know you’re the wife that the Ford Family accepts. Come home with me,” he said.
