Chapter 21
Autumn immediately understood what was going on. Her voice turned icy. “If I could easily get Damien’s schedule and know his whereabouts in real time, Mr. Keller, maybe you should reflect on whether that’s your own negligence.”
A CEO’s schedule was supposed to be confidential. That was the job of the assistant and secretary to safeguard.
Scott already knew that Autumn had caught Damien celebrating Emilia’s birthday. That must have hit her hard–she hadn’t been home for a week, which was enough proof that she cared. But her sharp retort still caught him off guard.
All it did was irritate him.
Why couldn’t she just behave and stay quiet like before, when everything was peaceful?
Scott waved his hand, signaling the guards to keep forcing her out.
Autumn hadn’t even processed everything from last night, and now she was being reprimanded out of nowhere by Scott. Anger surged inside her, and her face turned pale with frustration.
She’d always cared about keeping her composure, but she couldn’t stomach swallowing her pride like this.
Gritting her teeth, she shouted out loud.
“Help!”
The venue was crowded, full of people from the tech industry. Her voice turned heads, and as others caught sight of her striking face, they looked on in confusion.
“What’s going on?”
Scott hadn’t expected someone like Autumn, usually invisible and quiet, to make a scene at such an occasion. He was stunned.
Just as she was about to shout again, Scott told the guards to let her go.
Losing it worked, apparently.
He walked up to her with a stern expression. “Autumn, if you want to yell and scream in public, that’s your choice–you’re only embarrassing yourself. But if you drag Damien into this, do you even understand what kind of consequences you’re inviting?”
Autumn almost laughed. “No one here even knows about me and Damien except you. What are you so worried about? Besides, we’re divorced—”
“Save that talk for yourself,” Scott snapped, cutting her off coldly.
Autumn fell silent. She had always tolerated things in the past, and that made her look like an easy target. No one ever took her seriously, including Scott, which was why whatever she said now meant nothing to him.
She still had work to do and didn’t want to waste time arguing with someone she couldn’t reason with. “Right back at you. Stay out of my business.”
With that, she turned to leave.
Scott’s face darkened. “Autumn, do you really think acting like this will make Damien pay attention to you?”
She paused, pulled out her event pass, and held it up to him. Her voice was ice cold. “Mr. Keller, how about you just mind your own business?”
Without waiting for a reply, she walked away.
To get into the venue, she obviously needed a pass. Scott knew that. When his eyes caught the Faulkner Group logo printed on it, he froze.
He suddenly remembered that Autumn worked there. But judging by her abilities, she was probably just a low–level secretary to some junior director.
Faulkner Group had been founded five years ago. In the beginning, it had been one of Caldwell Group’s strongest competitors, but in recent years, Faulkner Group had pulled far ahead. There were even rumors swirling about the return of Faulkner Group’s CEO, though no one actually knew who ran the company behind the scenes.
Given that it had achieved a trillion–dollar valuation in just five years, many speculated that the true owner must be a heavyweight from the Clerestia elite circle—only someone with that kind of influence could pull it off.
Scott frowned as he watched Autumn walk away. He knew all too well how she felt about Damien.
Even if she was here for work, it didn’t rule out the possibility that she was trying to get close to him
Three years ago, she had schemed her way into becoming Damien’s wife. She had known Damien didn’t like her, and she should have behaved accordingly–kept her head down. But Autumn was always delusional, always crossing lines.
He despised women like her–women who didn’t know their place.
Since she’s run into Scott here, that meant Damien must be around too. Autumn didn’t want to bump into him. Thankfully, the venue was big, and the odds of crossing paths were low.
She made her way toward the banquet hall.
Ahead of her was a robotics exhibition, already drawing quite the crowd.
