Chapter 96
The next second, Damien stopped wasting his breath and violently yanked Autumn away.
Rico’s expression darkened as he stepped in to block them.
“Get out of the way, Salazar.”
Damien shoved him, but Rico didn’t budge.
“Damien, do you even know what respect means? Can’t you see Autumn doesn’t want to go with you? I’m giving you three seconds to let her go.”
Damien hadn’t expected Autumn to be this popular with men. Even Rico was stepping up to protect her now?
Rage surged inside Damien’s chest, but his expression stayed as usual.
Finally, he turned his gaze to Dawson and scornfully said, “Since when can your friend meddle in matters between Autumn and me? I don’t recall you changing your last name to Caldwell!” In other words, Dawson had absolutely nothing to do with any of the Caldwells‘ affairs.
Rice froze for a second, then snapped angrily, “What the hell is wrong with you, Caldwell? I’m Autumn’s friend, so am I not allowed to call you out for being such a tyrant? What does this have to do with Dawson? You think he’s as petty and narrow–minded as you?
“Give me a break! Who the hell has time to pick fights with you every day? I happen to be a very busy man, okay? Get over yourself! Who wants to have the same last name as you anyway?” “Whether I’m full of myself or not has nothing to do with you. But you barking like a crazy dog? That’s real, and so is you sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong,” Damien retorted.
Rico was about to curse him out when Dawson suddenly said icily, “Enough. This doesn’t concern you.”
Rico froze and glanced at Dawson, who remained completely unmoved. He could only fall silent, momentarily speechless.
“Hear that? Now, get lost!” Damien said.
Rico was hit hard by Dawson’s indifference. It practically chilled him to the bone.
Had he really been overthinking this? Did Dawson really not care about Autumn at all?
For some reason, Rico found himself getting irritated, causing his expression to harden.
“Dawson,
even if you don’t care about Autumn, you shouldn’t hold me back. As her friend, I’m not going to stand by and watch her get bullied!” Dawson simply pressed his lips into a thin line and said nothing.
So, he truly didn’t plan to step in? Fine! He deserved to stay single forever for being so cold–hearted!
Rico let out a cold laugh, then turned back and looked seriously at Autumn. “If you don’t want to leave with that bastard, don’t worry–I’m not letting you go anywhere.” Autumn could feel this was what it meant to be respected and truly cared for by a friend.

But all Damien’s gaze held was growing impatience. He had never once thought to stop and ask how she felt or what she wanted.
Autumn gave Rico a reassuring look. “Give me five minutes. I’ll make things clear with him and come right back.”
Rico understood that there were some things a husband and wife definitely had to make clear, so he nodded and said, “Alright, if you’re not back when the five–minute mark is up, I’m coming to find you.”
“Okay.” After that, Autumn turned to Damien and said calmly, “Let’s go.”
Damien tightened his grip on her wrist again. Who did she think she was to talk to him like that? His expression grew even colder as he strode away, his pace quickening until he pulled ahead
of her.
Autumn stared at the back of his head. His fury right now came from the fact that he had always been the one in control of this relationship. But her resistance and words had shifted the power dynamics between them, as she, once always obedient, was now suddenly daring to push back against him.
Damien wasn’t used to it.
Well, soon, Autumn would make sure he understood that whatever was between them wasn’t his decision alone!
The way Autumn’s gaze stayed locked on the back of Damien’s head didn’t escape Dawson’s notice. She had said she wanted a divorce, yet it was obvious she still loved Damien so much. With a shrug of indifference, Dawson turned his gaze away and picked up a ball from the ground, squeezing it a little too tightly.
“Who’s up?” he asked.
“Are you seriously still in the mood to play right now?” Rico asked.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Dawson reportedly coldly.
