Chapter 6
Aaron’s heart skipped a beat, but he quickly regained his composure, furrowing his brow.
“It must be someone with the same name. The bond–sealing deal is done. We’re going to Stonevale in five days. How could she leave the pack now?”
The pack doctor entered.
“Alpha, Ava left a message for you before she left. She has left the pack and headed to Stonevale. She told you to take care of yourself and not worry about her.”
The pack doctor’s words struck Aaron like a thunderclap.
Aaron, who had never lost control, now staggered, barely able to stand.
So Ava’s words about ‘living well‘ were her goodbye to him.
A faint red flushed his cheeks, creeping up to his eyes. He pressed his lips together tightly, trying to hold back the trembling.
“No!”
The Ava he had risked his life to save–how could she have just died like that?
The Beta’s voice was filled with sorrow.
“Guards saw her carriage heading toward the borders. They found a body… her size, her name. Too many coincidences.”
Aaron’s face turned ashen. His voice steady, but his trembling body betrayed him.
Without a word, he turned and dashed into the forest, shifting into a massive black wolf as he ran.
Since his injury, he had rarely shifted.
He always said he didn’t like transforming anymore.
But in truth, he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to run freely in the forest like he used to. He feared that his paws wouldn’t have the strength to hold him
- up.
But now, in his wolf form, he cursed himself for not being able to go faster, faster still.
Aaron raced to the edge of a cliff, shifted back into his human form, found some clothes among the bushes, and approached where the body had been
placed.
The body had been covered with a white cloth by the warriors, and the surrounding pack members murmured in sorrow.
They cursed the rogues for their cruelty, harming so many, especially a young she–wolf.
Aaron felt as though it took all his strength just to stay on his feet.
Ava, who had been right under his nose every day, how had he not realized she was planning to leave the pack?
Each step he took toward the body felt as though he were walking toward an endless abyss. Sweat dripped down his forehead.
Beside the body, there was an unfathomable cliff.
If the body under the white cloth was Ava’s, he thought, he would jump down and bring her back. He had saved her so many times–this time, he would pull her back from the gates of death.
His hand lingered on the cloth for a long time, trembling as he finally pulled it back.
Underneath, there was a stranger’s face.
The tension in his body snapped, and he collapsed to the ground, laughing in relief.
It had been a false alarm. What a beautiful feeling this was.
But as he laughed, tears welled up in his eyes.
He had cared for Ava so much, more than he had realized.
Returning to the packhouse, he intended to bring the pack doctor, the medication, and the most comfortable vehicle from the garage.
Ava had donated so much blood; she needed to be comfortable.

He wanted to prepare everything and then drive to find her.
However, when he reached the front of the packhouse, a group of warriors surrounded him.
The Alpha’s face was livid, and he slapped Aaron across the face.
“You disgrace! You made Ava bleed for that jezebel? She’s frail! How could you?! Ellie’s been bedding half the Alphas in the territory! If you’ve any decency left, BRING AVA BACK AND SEAL THE BOND!”
