“Mom and Dad, I have made up my mind. I was willing to go back and inherit the family property.”
Upon hearing that their daughter Catherine Maldonado finally agreed to speak up, Keagan Maldonado and Carleigh Maldonado on the other end of the phone were overjoyed. They remembered the boyfriend she had concealed her identity from and couldn’t help but ask, “So, is your boyfriend coming back with you? You haven’t told him your true identity yet, have you?”
“No, I was going to break up with him,” Catherine’s voice lowered unconsciously when mentioning Dayton Franco, “In a week, I would end everything over here.”
After a few more chats, Catherine hung up the phone, put away her mobile, and returned to the private room.
The private room was crowded and noisy, and the voices of the conversations paused for a moment when she entered through the door. However, she seemed oblivious and went straight to sit next to Dayton.
He picked up some attention from the conversation and looked at Catherine, who was sitting quietly on the side. His voice was lazy and casual, “Baby, why were you on the phone for so long?”
She hadn’t even spoken when another voice interrupted her.
None of the people present were from Fostaria, but that person said in Fostarian, “Dayton, when are you and Jaelyn Sellers planning to get married?”
Upon hearing this, Catherine’s hand, holding the cup, tightened slightly, her fingertips turning slightly pale. However, Dayton remained nonchalant, glancing at her before answering his question with a Fostarian accent, “Half a month from the day we set at home.”
Upon hearing this, everyone in the room turned their gaze towards Catherine.
There was a brother who raised an eyebrow, with a hint of curiosity in his tone, “If you marry Jaelyn, what will happen to Catherine? Will you break up?”
“No way,” Dayton shook his head, gently swaying the glass in his hand. He took a sip and continued, “Marriage is just a formality for the family. The only person I love is Catherine.”
As soon as these words were spoken, the private room burst into laughter, with the sound of people making jokes and teasing one another echoing one after another. “Dayton, why are you getting into pure love now? The difference in status is so huge, and you really care about her, huh?”
He turned his head to look at her, with tenderness and love so thick in his eyes that it was almost melting. Without saying a word, he answered the
question perfectly.
Someone looked at his infatuated appearance and exclaimed in amazement, “It seems like he has truly fallen in love. But by the way, doesn’t she really
understand Fostarian?”
The man was just asking casually, but little did he know that when others heard his words, they all burst into laughter. “Catherine’s family is struggling, how can they afford to learn Fostarian? Don’t worry, she definitely won’t understand.”
The sound of ridicule from the crowd was raging in her ears, unnoticed by anyone, Catherine, standing beside, was breathing slightly faster, and her hand gripping the wine glass had already turned pale.
