Chapter 28
Back then, Callum had been two years ahead of her at Falveria–a star among stars, the campus golden boy.
There were always beautiful women around him, like butterflies chasing the sun, and she was just the invisible one in the crowd.
Her eyes stung without warning.
Not long after, Callum finished the small bowl of pasta and soup, down to the last drop of broth.
He set his utensils down and dabbed the corner of his mouth with a napkin.
This was the first and only dinner she had ever made for him as his wife, and now he’d tasted it.
He looked up at her, his face unreadable.
“Be at the office by ten tomorrow. We’ll sign the papers. I’ll transfer 300 million to you. Consider it compensation for the past three years. The villa you used to live in, I’ll sign that over too. There’s no need for you to stay in a place like this.”
His voice was calm and businesslike.
Even though she’d already told him she didn’t want anything after the divorce, he didn’t want to owe her.
Nadia’s fingers curled at her sides, nails digging into her palms.
She lifted her chin, her expression cold as ice. “Thank you, Mr. Ford.”
At last, he turned and walked out the door.
Only the faint trace of his cologne lingered in the air, as if he’d never been there at all.
The moment the door closed, something inside Nadia crumbled. She slid slowly to the floor, her strength gone.
Under the warm glow of the light, her eyes were rimmed red.
So that was why he came tonight–to say goodbye.
Three years… 300 million… compensation?
He didn’t need to give her anything.
After 12 years, this was where it ended.
Whatever debt she once owed him, she had finally repaid in full.
At 9:50 am, just as the sunlight broke through the clouds, Nadia stepped through the revolving glass doors of Ford Group’s headquarters. However, the light didn’t bring her any warmth.
Julian was already waiting in the lobby, perfectly dressed in his signature elite–assistant attire, wearing a flawless, professional smile.
“Mrs. Ford, this way, please.”
There was no dramatic front desk interrogation, no curious stares. Julian simply led her straight toward an elevator that stood out from the rest.
“Elevator in operation.”
The voice was low and pleasant.
Inside, the space was spacious and silent. He pressed the button for the top floor, and the elevator began its smooth, quiet ascent.
When the numbers stopped climbing at floor 79, the doors slid open.
What met her eyes was an absurdly spacious executive level. Past the CEO’s office, she caught a brief glimpse of his team–s
one woman.
They stopped in front of the CEO’s office. Julian swiped his card and opened the door.
-six assistants, comprising five men and
The interior was minimalist, yet every detail exuded luxury. A clean, subtle fragrance lingered in the air. The scent was impossible to place, but it made the space feel calm, or maybe just emotionally distant.
“Mrs. Ford, Mr. Ford is stiil in a meeting. It should end in about ten minutes,” Julian said evenly. “Please have a seat. Here’s the agreement. You’re welcome to look
it over.”
Nadia nodded and took the file, which wasn’t particularly thick
She walked to the couch, placed the document on the coffee table, flipped straight to the last page, and found the signature line.
The pen glided over the paper, leaving behind her name.
Smooth, quick, and no hesitation.
she hadn’t even bothered reading the terms. Why would she? The outcome would be the same either way.
She picked up the signed agreement, but didn’t hand it back to Julian,
There was a flicker of surprise in his eyes, quickly masked by professionalism. “I’ll go get you some coffee, Mrs. Ford, Mr. Ford will be with you shortly to go over the final details.”
“Thank you,” she said softly
Julian turned and left, and then she was alone in the office.
