Chapter 4
When I got home that day, I had a fever.
I was worried about infecting Alistair, so
I tried to minimize contact with him over
the next few days.
I
gave
him fifty dollars each day for meals, letting him buy his own breakfast and dinner.
I thought a couple of days of rest would help, but my fever only worsened.
I was burning up, struggling to tell day from night, reality from illusion.
I dreamed of Randell again.
Chapter 4
I saw him sitting by my bedside, gently stroking my cheek.
I dreamed he was feeding me medicine and wiping my body.
For years, I had pretended to be a strong adult to avoid worrying Alistair.

But in that dream, being cared for by him, I completely broke down.
I clutched Randell’s hand, crying out, “Randell, I’m so tired… I’m in so much pain… I miss you…”
The next day, I woke up to the sound of my alarm.
I moved my achy body, feeling as if I was finally back to normal.

Suddenly, the images of last night’s dream flashed in my mind.
I jumped out of bed in shock.
The room was quiet, with no signs of anyone having visited.
I opened the door and saw Alistair still at home, not yet off to school.
“Alistair, did someone come to our house last night?”
He shook his head.
“Aunt Eleanore, you said no one could
come in except you.”
I tapped his nose playfully.

“Don’t forget, you’re supposed to call me
Mom.”
Discovering that last night had indeed been just a dream left me feeling a little down.

After five years, I thought I had forgotten Randell.
I didn’t understand why he had to resurface now, stirring up feelings in my
heart.
Having just recovered from being ill, I didn’t look my best.
So, I rarely put on makeup, but today, I decided to do something special.
Chapter 4
As soon as I arrived at the office, a colleague poked my arm.
“I didn’t expect you to be so well–informed.”
I blinked, confused.
“What news?”
“You really don’t know? A client came in a couple of days ago, and they say it’s from a subsidiary of the Deleon Group. That’s the Deleon Group! When have we ever worked with such a big company? If it goes through, we’ll definitely get bonuses!”
Just as my colleague finished speaking, the elevator doors opened.

I saw Randell step inside.
Seeing my colleague’s infatuated gaze, I realized the so–called young and promising man she had mentioned was none other than Randell.
After a brief moment of eye contact, I averted my gaze, not wanting any connection with him at that moment.

But, of course, Randell walked right over to my desk in front of everyone.
He tapped on my desk.
“Good to see you again, Eleanore.”
Upon seeing that I knew Randell, my manager, Donovan Barker, who usually disapproved of me, perked up.

“Eleanore, you know Mr. Deleon!”

I understood what Donovan was trying to do.
If I admitted it, I would likely be assigned to work directly with Randell.
However, I felt that being around him often would make it impossible for me to manage my feelings.
After all, just seeing him a few days ago had already thrown my heart into chaos.
I immediately denied it. “I don’t know him.”
My reaction seemed to be exactly what Randell expected.

They didn’t even bother to ask for
opinion.

“Let Eleanore handle the project going forward; I just need her to coordinate with me.”
It was clear that if I wasn’t the point of contact, the project would stall.
Because I had to pick up Alistair after school, my work hours were different from everyone else’s.
This was the job I had worked hard to find.
I couldn’t give it up just because of Randell; after all, it would be tough to find another position that suited me so

So, I gritted my teeth and accepted.
