Chapter 14
The person who came into Martin’s office wasn’t the woman he missed desperately. No, it was Alessa instead.
Clearly, she had heard the name he blurted out. It didn’t make sense. Why would Jasmine, a lowly assistant, keep opposing her?
Martin looked disappointed when he saw her, too. The
reaction he gave was such a stark contrast that it was a hard pill to swallow.
“Jasmine, again! Martin, do you have actual feelings for her or something?” Alessa asked.
He didn’t respond to her. Once he realized that Jasmine wasn’t
the one who walked in, he lost all interest.
Seeing the indifferent look on his face ticked Alessa off even
more. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she felt so miserable that she screamed hysterically.
“She is just a freaking assistant and a bitch! The first day I returned to Corvalis, I knew she had impure thoughts about you. Ladies like her are better off gone!
“Martin, remember when you told me that I’m the only one you love? So, what is the meaning of this? Do you have feelings for her or something?”

Faced with Alessa’s relentless questioning, Martin’s heart was a complete mess, leaving him utterly silent.
But she was pampered her whole life. The more she was ignored, the more her heart burned with hatred for Jasmine. She grabbed the stuff on his desk and smashed it on the floor in a fit of rage.
“I heard everything you said. You asked someone about
Jasmine’s whereabouts and wanted her to come back. Because you want to get back together with her! You’re in love with her!

Martin snapped. His patience had run out, and his eyes were void of the love they once held for Alessa when he looked at
her now.
He didn’t get it, not even a little. Why did he ever fall in love with someone like her? Alessa was unreasonable, willful, and insufferably arrogant. Worse, she even forced Jasmine out of
his life.
At the thought of it, Martin couldn’t hold himself back
anymore. His eyes bloodshot as he retorted, “Yeah, I’m in love with Jasmine. So, what? Do you know exactly what you’ve
done?”
Once he started unloading his feelings, his rage went rampant, and there was no stopping it. He took one step after another
toward her.

“You sent all my assistants away. You even deleted my work emails without asking me, leading to several partners calling off collaborations with Quinlan Group!
“I gave you authority in my company, yet you merely used it to gloat about your power. You pushed my staff around, driving them to the point of wanting to quit. Do you have any idea the kind of damage you did to my company?
“You know what? I could’ve looked past these reckless things you did, but why did you have to force Jasmine to leave? You threw her under the bus over and over. That was why she
couldn’t take it and walked out on me!
“You did get one thing right, though. I have feelings for Jasmine. Yeah, I’m in love with her! You’ve been gone for so long, and she was the one who stayed by my side all these
years.
“Alessa, you don’t have the right to say anything bad about her!” Martin roared. His eyes filled with a chilling darkness .
Alessa was utterly frightened. She couldn’t stop herself from trembling, and tears welled up in her eyes. However, fear didn’t take her sharp tongue away from her.
“She’s just an assistant. What’s so goddamn special about—”
Before she was done speaking, Martin mercilessly slapped her. The sound of hand hitting flesh was so crisp that it shook her
-he actually slapped her.
Tears were already welling up in her eyes, as it was. And now,
they immediately streamed down her cheeks. Raising her fists,
she hammered him in tears.
“I can’t believe you slapped me! Martin, you hit me! You said you love me, and yet you slapped me for the sake of an
assistant!”
Alessa’s struggles didn’t do any good at all. Once Martin came to terms with his actual feelings, his eyes brimmed with
disdain whenever he looked at her. He grabbed her hands and
slapped her again.
The heavy slap sent her head snapping to the side, and her
cheek immediately swelled. But that did nothing to abate the
anger in his eyes, and his voice dripped with an unfeeling
iciness.
“Jasmine suffered far more than this. These slaps don’t even
begin to cover it. You’re going to apologize to her!”
