Chapter 7
Giselle said, “Leon, Zane, Steve… I know that I’m just the daughter of a lowly butler, and I’m not as pretty as Ms. Jenner, not do I come from a wealthy background like her. That’s why I’ve acknowledged since young that I would never cover anything that doesn’t belong to me.
“But it wasn’t until the three of you appeared in my life and told me you liked me that I finally saw a sliver of hope. I will never forget the time you left Ms. Jenner at camp and rushed home in your cars to comfort me first because I had a terrible nightmare
“I’ll also never forget about when you lied to everyone about going on a business trip fist to bring me to see the aurora borealis on my birthday. I will also never forget the fact that you donated you kidney and blood to me, until you were all on the brink of death first to save my life.
“By the time you see this video, I will already be standing on the rooftop of Jenner Group’s building. I know that one of you must marry Ms. Jenner and take her as your wife, but I just can’t bear to think that we will have to stop seeing each other and cut off all contact after the wedding. My heart is shattered beyond repair.
“I know that none of you are willing to marry her, and you’re only doing so because you’re all being forced into this marriage alliance by your families. I also know that none of you would even agree to marry Ms. Jenner if it weren’t out of fear that your families would harm me otherwise.
“I don’t want to be the reason you all trap yourself in this nightmare and sacrifice your happiness for the rest of your life just because of me.
“That’s why I’ve decided to end my life here today. After I’m dead, you’ll no longer be bound by me, and you’ll all be free to choose and marry the person that you truly love.”
The five–minute video suddenly cut off abruptly, and the entire banquet hall was plunged into deathly silence.
Everyone’s eyes were widened in disbelief as they stared at Leon, Zane, and Steve. Everyone but Cheryl.
JHer mind had blanked out when she first saw the video. However, as she recalled Giselle’s attitude right before she left for the party, she was no longer surprised.
She looked at the three young men below the stage who looked like they’d just been struck by lightning. Their elders and family members were standing right next to them, with a few of them looking as though they might pass out.
Cheryl sighed.
She figured that the elders from those families, especially those who’d watched her grow up before their eyes, were the ones who wouldn’t accept this sudden turn of events the most.
After all, her parents already knew who she’d picked as her groom, and it wasn’t any of the trio who’d let her down so many times. They would be shocked at first, but grateful that she never picked from them after all.
Now, the trio’s family members, who’d been kept in the dark for such a long time and still had dreams of Cheryl marrying into their family, would drop the notion altogether after learning of all the things those three had done for Giselle.
And, just as Cheryl expected, as soon as the three families snapped out of it, they immediately got their bodyguards to stop the trio from rushing off in the middle of the banquet to look for Giselle.
They had all been shamed and embarrassed in public because of this whole incident, and the elders were particularly angry at the three young men. They slammed on the tables and yelled at them.
“It’s Cheryl’s birthday banquet today, so where the hell do you three think you’re going instead of staying here to celebrate it with her? Looking for that fucking butler’s daughter? I’m telling you, don’t you even think of going near that woman as long as we are still around! You hear me?”
Leon, Zane, and Steve had already gone berserk from the moment they heard that Giselle was going to kill herself. Their logic and rationality were already long
gone.
The only thing they cared about now was Giselle’s safety, and they wanted nothing more than to rush off to wherever she was to save her.
So, despite the guests‘ increasingly loud murmuring, their enraged family members‘ protests, and the bodyguards heavily pinning them to the ground, Leon, Zane, and Steve just didn’t care about them anymore.
“A fucking birthday banquet can’t be more important than saving a person’s life! If you don’t let us go now, I swear to god that none of us will ever marry Cheryl Jenner if anything happens to Gigi!”
After yelling their resolve, they tore free from their blazers and grabbed the nearby beer bottles, slamming the glass onto the bodyguards‘ heads.
The entire venue descended into chaos after that, with people shouting and screaming everywhere.
The trio finally broke free from their constraints and ran off without ever looking back. Cheryl stared at their disappearing silhouettes from where she stood on the stage, raising the corners of her lips into a self–deprecating smile.
Even in her second life, the three of them still abandoned everything for Giselle.
She lowered her head and pressed against her chest, feeling her quickened heartbeat that was about to leap out of her throat,
Aside from the bitter, stuffy feeling in her heart, she couldn’t feel the pain anymore.
When the guests saw that Leon, Zane, and Steve had run off, they immediately turned their attention toward Cheryl on the stage.
“To think that all three of her childhood friends were in love with the butler’s daughter! Oh my god, this must be such an embarrassment for her! She’s so pitiful!”
“And on her birthday today, too! All three of her suitors are gone, and the banquet’s been crashed. Do you think she’ll go crazy after this?”
Cheryl was still looking as calm as ever in the face of such gossip.
She just patted her parents lightly on the shoulder to snap them out of their shock. Then, she took the microphone from their hands and spoke.
“Alittle mishap just occurred, causing some panic among our lovely guests. I’d like to apologize to everyone on behalf of my parents.
“But aside from that, I’d also like to announce that my wedding will be held the day after tomorrow. I’m getting married to Mr. Dylan Sterling, from the Sterling family in Northdale. Everyone here is invited to attend!”
