Chapter 24
“I didn’t… I wouldn’t… I just wanted her to apologize to you and make amends. If you want me to atone, I’ll do so too!” Damien explained in a panic.
He wanted to approach Celeste, but her fearful gaze held him back, and he dared not take a step closer.
Chase furrowed his brows and gently patted Celeste’s back. He comforted her in a soft voice, “Don’t worry. I won’t give him another chance to hurt you.”
Then, when he turned to face Damien, his expression instantly darkened.
“Damien, do you even believe what you’re saying? If you really wanted to atone, would you need Celeste’s permission before doing it, or do you not dare to do so?”
Before Damien could refute him, Chase continued, “Whether you’re willing to atone or not doesn’t matter. I’ll have you atone right now!”
With that, several bodyguards stepped forward. They tied him up and dragged him into the car.
Damien didn’t resist. He merely stared at Celeste.
“Celeste, the only reason I didn’t atone for my sins was because I wanted to find you sooner, apologize to you, and stay by your side. If this is what you want, then I’ll accept it willingly.”
Once he was dragged into the car, the door closed. The car receded into the distance until it disappeared entirely.
Celeste couldn’t help but ask Chase, “Where did you send him?”
I’ve already made arrangements at a prison here. He will atone for every sin he has committed,” he replied calmly. Celeste nodded. She didn’t care about Damien’s fate. This was what he owed her to begin with. He had to pay it back.
However, with Damien gone, Ophelia stood lost and unsure. After a brief panic, a spark of hope lit up in her eyes, and she seemed to come alive again. Looking at Chase, tall and poised beside Celeste, Ophelia did what she had done countless times before.
She tried to present her most flattering angle and said meekly, “Sir? Could you please help me and my parents? They’re still being held in a hospital by Damien and are forced to donate blood at scheduled times. They’re elderly and their bodies can’t take it…
“I’m begging you, please… I can give you whatever you want…”
Her gaze was seductive, and her words were laced with implications.
Perhaps she had forgotten that she had been imprisoned for too long, but her voice had been ruined from the torment. It was hoarse and unpleasant. Celeste wasn’t angry, nor was she jealous. On the contrary, she looked Ophelia and Chase over with amusement. She wanted to see how Chase would
react.
If he, like Damien, could be fooled by Ophelia’s pathetic act, then there was no reason for her to stay with him. After all, she could still walk away with his entire fortune.
Chase’s expression remained indifferent. There wasn’t even a hint of emotion on his face. He was scarily calm.
“I’m not a knight, so I can’t save you. The only person who can save you and your parents is yourself. You aren’t crippled, so you can earn money and go rescue them.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he took Celeste’s hand and walked home without sparing Ophelia another glance.
Just as the door closed behind them, Chase pinned Celeste against it and kissed her lips. His restraint held a faint undercurrent of madness. Between their breaths, his deep and magnetic voice whispered into her ear, “Celeste, you watched my performance. This is your punishment.”
With that, he lightly bit her earlobe, making her tremble all over and let out a soft gasp. He then kissed her again, lifting her in his arms and carrying her toward the bedroom.
As he walked, he explained, “Celeste, I’m not like Damien. I treasure you. I wouldn’t have stayed single all these years if just any woman could seduce me.
“Got it…” Celeste panted breathlessly.
