Chapter 34

When Layla heard the voice, her head snapped up, and her gaze locked onto Seth’s piercing, dark eyes

In that moment of danger, she forgot all her past grievances. Without thinking, Layla pointed at the two men behind her and said, Call the police! They’re dangerous!”

For the first time since their reunion, Layla sought Seth’s help. She was no longer trying to push him away

Seth gently brushed Layla’s head, his voice calm and steady. Don’t be afraid. Take Daisy and go. I’ll handle this.”

Layla said softly, Be careful ”

Then, she turned and hurried off with Daisy in her arms. She hadn’t gone far when the anguished screams of men echoed from the alley

Layla had been married to Seth for four years, long enough to understand his skills. Two men would be no challenge for him

As Layla ran out of the alley, Sylvia’s car pulled up in front of her. Without hesitation, she opened the door and climbed in. Drive. Quickly.”

Noticing her pale face and tense expression, Sylvia frowned. What’s wrong? Did you see someone?”

Clutching Daisy tightly, Layla’s eyes turned red, and her voice carried a hoarse edge. It was the two men from four years ago. The ones who hurt me.Sylvia slammed on the brakes, turning sharply to look at Layla. They didn’t hurt you again, did they?”

Layla shook her head. No, Seth showed up just in time.”

Sylvia clenched her jaw, anger flashing in her eyes. Stay here with Daisy. I’ll deal with those bastards myself. Your hand shouldn’t have been ruined for nothing.”

Layla immediately stopped her. “No, they won’t get away. But Seth will probably find out about my injury soon enough

Sylvia scoffed, her anger evident. So what if he finds out? He needs to know. I’m curious to see how that jerk reacts. If he dares stay indifferent, I’ll grab a giant sword and deal with him!”

Layla’s gaze darkened, her voice trembling slightly from lingering fear, I just don’t want to get entangled with him again.”

Entangled? He owes you! Because of him, you can’t pick up a paintbrush anymore. What, is he just going to pretend like nothing happened?Sylvia said

They drove home in silence. Daisy was still shaken. She clung tightly to Layla’s neck, refusing to let go

d softly

Mark knelt beside her and ran a comforting hand through her hair. Daisy, let Daddy hold you so Mommy can take a bath, OK?he said: Daisy obediently nestled into Mark’s arms. Like a tiny kitten, she curled up on his shoulder, her wide eyes fixed on the door, as if waiting for someone. Layla looked at her with concern. Sweetheart, are you feeling unwell? Tell Mommy il something’s wrong

Daisy’s thick lashes trembled, and a faint sound escaped her throat

Daddy,she whispered

The single word sent a sharp pang through Layla’s heart

She instantly grasped Daisy’s thoughts. The little girl was worried about Seth

When Layla had fled with Daisy in her arms, the little girl must have glimpsed Seth fighting those men

Layla couldn’t deny the unbreakable pull of blood ties

”

She pressed a gentle kiss to her daughter’s forehead. Don’t worry, sweetheart. He’s going to be just fine.”
