Chapter 35
Syria glanced at Layla, her tone laced with disbelief. “Are you saying Daisy just called that jerk?
Layla remained silent, offering only a slight nod
ou and Daisy! If it weren’t for him,
Sylvia gritted her teeth, anger fleshing in her eyes. “What makes that jerk deserve it? After everything he did to you Delay wouldn’t have this condition. Why does she call him first? It’s so unfair to you.”
Layla gently upped Sylvia’s arm and whispered, “Stop it. Daisy understands everything. She just can’t express it.”
Sylvia’s voice shaped as her frustration spilled over. “I just don’t understand. When you left the Parker residence, you were barely hanging on. And what was he doing? Getting engaged to his precious line sweetheart. If he had even the slightest feelings for you, he wouldn’t have moved on so fast.”
Their conversation was cut short by the sudden chime of the doorbell
Daisy, who had been lying quietly on Mark’s shoulder, suddenly lit up, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
She wriggled free from Mark’s arms and dashed toward the door.
When Daisy opened the door and sew Seth standing there, her wide, dark eyes locked onto him, unblinking. Slowly, tears brimmed in her gaze,
The sight of her tears sent a sharp ache through Seth’s chest. Why did seeing this child cry unsettle him so much?
Seth crouched down and picked Daisy up before gently pinching her cheek. His voice was soft and almost tender as he asked, “Were you scared? Don’t worry. I’ve already sent the bad guys to the police station.”
Daisy studied his face, her gaze sweeping over him from head to toe. Once she was sure that he wasn’t hurt, she threw her arms around his neck, tears
Something deep within Seth’s heart crumbled in that moment. It was a sensation he had never felt before
Benjamin had always been proud and distant. Even when Seth tried to get close, Benjamin would push him away, confidently declaring, “I’m a man. I don’t need anyone.”
But this little Landle of warmth clung to him, refusing to let go..
Wasn’t this the father–daughter bond he had always dreamed of?
Seth’s lips curved into a rare smile as he ruffled Daisy’s hair. However, his gaze shifted to Mark with a teasing glint. “Daisy, you’re so close to me. Your daddy might get jealous.”
Mark offered a small smile and stepped forward. He gestured politely toward the door as he said, “Thank you for helping them today, Mr. Parker. Let me tree you to a meal another time. It’s late, so I won’t keep you.”
Seth’s smile faded slightly as he glanced at Layla. His voice dropped, tinged with concern. “Layla, are you OK?
Layla’s tone remained steady, though her gaze held a trace of weariness. “I’m fine. We need to put Daisy to bed. Mr. Parker, please leave.”
Sett, looked down at Daisy, raising an eyebrow with a playful smirk. “What should we do? Your mommy and daddy are kicking me out. How about you come home with me instead?”
Daisy’s eyes widened, hope flickering in her gaze
Layla stiffened, quickly pulling Daisy from Seth’s arm. “Sweetheart, it’s time for a bath and bed. Say goodbye to Mr. Parker.”
Though reluctant, Delsy waved at Seth, her little hand lingering in the air as her eyes still filled with longing
Sylvia shot Get a glare. “You’re still here? They need to rest. Take the hint and leave.”
Seth’s gaze lingered on Layla, his voice low and rough with emotion. “Don’t worry. Neither of those men will get away.
Layla operand her mouth to reply but stopped short when Daisy sneezed several times in quick succession
Feeling that something was wrong, Layla quickly unbuttoned Daisy’s shirt, her heart sinking as she spotted a rash spreading across Daisy’s chest.
She turned to Mark, her volte edged with worry. “She touched a kitten earlier. It’s probably an allergic reaction to the fur.”
Seth’s gaze sharpened at her words, His eyes lingered on the rash before he asked, his tone laced with surprise, “She’s allergic to eat fur too?”
