Chapter 78
When they arrived at the company, Charlie parked the car and got out, silently watching her walk away.
“Thank you for today.” Diana gave him a slight nod.
All in all, it was kind of embarrassing.
She had broken down crying in front of Charlie today. She couldn’t even begin to explain exactly why it happened. Although he hadn’t said anything, he must have found her pretty strange deep down, right?
Diana felt a little regretful about her string of inexplicable actions earlier.
She sighed and continued walking forward.
Just before she reached the entrance of Citrus Bless‘ main entrance, she had the strange impulse to look back. And to her surprise, Charlie hadn’t left yet.
With his hands in his pockets, legs straight, and posture tall, he stood quietly under a tree, watching her back.
Sunlight outlined his figure, casting a soft warmth over his features.
Sensing her gaze, Charlie smiled gently and raised his hand in a wave.
He waved her goodbye before finally turning around and getting back into the car.
When Diana returned to her office, she found Evelyne already waiting there.
“Diana, you’re here!” Evelyne greeted her with a big smile and practically bounced over to her.
“Wait–your-“Evelyne’s expression shifted suddenly, her eyes wide. “Oh my god, what happened to your wrists?”
Diana followed Evelyne’s gaze and looked down at her wrists. “It’s nothing, just a minor injury.”
“You call this minor? It’s all bruised and discolored!” Evelyne gasped.
Then, something clicked in her mind, and her face turned red with fury.
“Tell me. Was it that bastard Vincent? That scumbag dared to do this to you? Just unbelievable! Does he think you’re not his wife anymore? Come on, let’s go confront him right now!” Evelyne was practically shaking with rage.
“Evelyne.” Diana calmly held her back.
Tears shimmered in Evelyne’s reddening eyes as she turned to look at her.
Diana lowered her gaze and said calmly, “I’m fine. I’ve already applied some medicine. It’ll be completely healed in a few days.”
“But it’s all bruised.” Evelyne choked up, stomping her foot in anger. “How could he treat you like this? How dare he!”
Diana’s lips curled into a faint, bitter smile.
“I slapped Gabriella, so he stood up for her. Don’t worry, Evelyne. I’m really okay.”
“That bastard didn’t hit you, did
Evelyne asked anxiously, practically wanting to check every inch of her for injuries.
Diana shook her head. “He just gave me a few warnings, nothing more.”
Evelyne’s eyes were bloodshot and full of indignation.
“How did it get to this point between the two of you? He used to care about you so much. Back when we were students, he’d be heartbroken and crying if you so much as got a paper cut.” As she reminisced, Evelyne’s heart ached for Diana.
Yes. How had it come to this?
Diana looked up, took a deep breath, and gave a bitter, self–deprecating smile. Then, she shook her head
“Even people who love each other can end up loathing each other. Maybe it’s because… I’ve long stopped being the most important person in his heart. Let’s not talk about this anymore.” She reached out and hugged Evelyne, who was fuming on her behalf, and gently wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes.
“We have to look to the future and keep moving forward. I’m not sad. Really,”
Evelyne sniffled and nodded firmly
“Right! Let’s make sure those who lost us lose us forever! Make those shameless scumbags regret it!”
In the blink of an eye, it was the day of the live broadcast. The studio had been set up well in advance. Now, they were just waiting for the time to go live.
