Chapter 9
Seeing my firm attitude, Freddy finally started to panic, tightly grabbing my hand and speaking in a hurried tone.
“I’m sorry, Elianna, I really know I was wrong, I shouldn’t have lied to you, shouldn’t have arrogantly gone with Selena to have a baby!”
“How can you treat me like this? Please don’t say such hurtful words.”
“Now I have paid the price, Selena’s physical condition is very poor, the doctor said it might be these few days.”
“Elianna, how am I supposed to live alone with the child? You clearly said before that you would be with me for a lifetime, have you forgotten?”
I forcefully pulled my hand out from between his hands.
“The past is in the past, we are already divorced, Freddy.”
“How you live your life in the future is your business, it has nothing to do with me. And don’t forget, the one who broke the oath first has never been me, but you.”
“Since you have broken your oath first, why should I be bound by an oath?”
I looked at him coldly and said word by word, “I couldn’t possibly go back to you and your son as a free nanny. Give it up.”
Freddy’s eyes were red–rimmed, and he opened his mouth, wanting to say something.

Without waiting for him to speak, I interrupted.
“I still have things to do, it’s dangerous here, you should go back to your country early.”
After saying that, I turned around and walked towards the camp.
Freddy’s voice came from behind.
“Elianna, if you don’t go back, then I won’t go back either. I’ll stay here with you, waiting for you to finish what you want to do, and then we’ll go home together.”
I didn’t even lift my eyelids, I simply ignored his words.
Just as I had taken only a few steps, I heard Freddy answer a phone call, apparently from a domestic hospital.
“What did you say, Selena is dead?”
“I am going back to my country now, you must wait for me to come back!”
At that moment, two bombers suddenly flew across the sky.
Listening to the familiar roar, I instinctively pushed Freddy away.
Freddy shouted, “Elianna, are you out of your mind?”
Soon his voice was drowned out by the sound of explosions not far away.
The whole ground seemed to be shaking with it, and the yellow soil splashed up by the bomb fell on both of us.
I ignored his scolding, slowly raised my head to look around, and then quickly got up from the ground.
Freddy was obviously scared by the sudden attack just now, sitting on the ground blankly without any reaction.
I turned my head and gave him a glance, pulling him up to stand.
“Let’s go inside and take cover first.”
Freddy, however, was clearly scared, his voice trembling.
“Elianna… Did we almost die just now?”
I had long been accustomed to the occasional life–threatening bombings, but for him, it was something he had never seen before.
I pursed my lips and took a while before saying, “I will have the captain find someone to take you back later, and you shouldn’t come again in the future.”
Freddy’s face was covered in dust, and he held the phone tightly in silence.
Soon, the captain brought over some locals.
The man was driving an old pickup truck, beckoning for Freddy to get in quickly. Chapter 9
As I was leaving, I stuffed two bills into the driver’s phone and reminded him to make sure to safely deliver the person to the airport.
Even though the relationship between him and me had come to an end, I couldn’t just stand by and watch a living person die like that.
Freddy didn’t speak, seeming to still be in the previous fear.
When I turned around again, I only saw his figure quickly jumping into the car.
