CHAPTER SIXI
“Did he really treat you that badly?” my grandmother asked, her eyes filled with concern.
I sighed and spent the next few minutes explaining everything. From the emotional torture, to the companson to Maya, the violence. Clara’s lies and the manipulation. By the time I finished, they all wore sad looks on their faces.
Mia’s eyes darkened with fury. I can’t wait to kick his ass! tum him into werewolf sushi, serve him with a side of his own testicles, and make Clara watch while I feed it to the birds’s
“Language, Mia,” I scolded, though I couldn’t help but smile at her fierce loyalty.
My grandparents exchanged womed glances.
“Revenge isn’t the answer. Evelyn,” my grandfather started. “It’ll only bring more pain,“}}
*Please, can we have this conversation over dinner? I’m craving your homemade lasagna, Grandma,” I effectively changed the subject.
They laughed as we drove off in my grandfather’s luxury SUV. I noticed them glancing at me repeatedly during the ride, as if I might vanish into thin air at any moment. Their concern touched me, reminding me of what I’d been missing all these years
We finally arrived at their estate. It was even more beautiful than I remembered with beautiful gardens, marble columns and bor–to–ceiling windows that reflected the sun. I gasped as we pulled up to the entrance.
Wow, I whispered as I stepped out of the car.
“Your parents left this house for you,” my grandmother said softly. “It was meant to be yours the moment you decided to become Alpha They prepared it before they diedz
Emotion welled up in my throat as I hugged them both. “I miss them more than ever now!
“Stop acting all dramatic and get inside already. It’s getting chilly out here.” Grandmother said with a laugh, wiping away her own tears.
My room was exactly as I remembered–painted purple, my favorite color. I spent time looking through old photos of my parents and me, tracing their faces with my fingertips
Mia barged in without knocking, flopping onto my bed. “Since you left, I haven’t had someone to share my crazy stories with. The pack is so boring without you.“ll
“Tell me everything,” I said, sitting beside her.
“Well, I almost got mated to this guy from the Southern pack–total disaster! And then there was this time I got drunk at the full moon ceremony and accidentally shifted in front of humans…”
We talked and laughed for hours until Mia finally stood up. “I should let you unpack, Dinner’s in thirty minutes.”
I took a quick shower after she left, threw on some comfortable clothes and hurried downstairs, my stomach growling loudly.
“Sorry for cutting bes with you all. I was blinded by love.” I apologized as I slid into my seat at the dining table.
My grandmother placed a steaming plate of food in front of me. “We never for once held a grudge. Now eat before it gets cold.”
I took a bite and moaned in delight. “This is incredible, Grandma. I’ve missed your cooking so much,”
As dinner progressed, the conversation returned to my plans for revenge.
“Evelyn,” my grandfather began carefully, “we don’t think this revenge plan will work.”
“It’s fine if you don’t believe in me,” I replied confidently. “You don’t know how strong I’ve become already.”
The truth was, I had healed physically from Lucas’s abuse, but emotionally, I still carried scars that needed time to fade, Revenge seemed like the only way to close that chapter completely
“We’re not talking about your strength, Sweetheart my grandmother sighed. “Don’t you know the requirements for becoming Alpha?”
I frowned. “What requirements?”
Mia burst into laughter. “I thought you were pretty determined and had already known the rules! You gave me the chills with all your talk of revenge and justice, and you don’t even know the basics?‘”
I reached over and lightly smacked her arm. “Shut up.
My grandparents exchanged a look before my grandfather signaled to Alan, our butler. He nodded and left the room, returning moments later with a scroll.
“There are three main clauses,” my grandfather began, unrolling the scroll. “The first is that you must be of age, which you are.”
“The second,” my grandmother continued, “is that you must prove your strength and worthiness to the council, which won’t be difficult given your lineage.”
I nodded in relief. “That doesn’t sound too bad.“%
My grandfather unrolled the scroll as the third clause was about to be revealed.
“And the third?” I prompted when they hesitated.!!
“The third,” my grandfather said slowly, “is that in order to be an Alpha, you need to many and it has to be someone your parents chose before their death”
The lasagna in my mouth suddenly turned to ash as I choked out, “WHAT?
