Chapter 17
I reported to Harlow Industries as promised.
Melissa got her wish and was transferred to be Reed’s secretary.
She was nervous, texting me every three minutes.
[Where is Mr. Harlow? He’s never this late!]
[He’s NEVER not at the office by now, right?]
[Maybe he’s hiding somewhere crying because his girlfriend isn’t with him on his first day.]
A shadow fell over me. I looked up as a hand snatched my phone away.
His voice whispered in my ear.
“Girlfriend, I was just completing some paperwork. I’m a little late.”
He pointed to the CEO nameplate on his office door.
“First order of business today: have someone take that down and replace it with ‘Your Boyfriend.‘
“Second order of business: follow me inside.”
He locked the door behind us, pinning me against the wall, his breath hot against
my ear.
“Don’t you have anything you want to ask me?
“Like whether there was a night you received a mysterious phone call.”
He lowered his head, nuzzling against me.
“With breathing like this.
“Or how I could be stupid enough to throw away a photo without shredding it. “Girlfriend, how could you be so slow to catch on?”
I punched him lightly.
“Playing these games. You’re such a child.”
“I’m not childish. I’m very… substantial.”
I looked up, my lips trembling with challenge.
“How substantial?”
“Want to find out?”

He lowered his head to kiss me, the kiss growing deeper. His palm supported my back, sliding downward.
“Mmm, isn’t this a bit inappropriate for the office…“.
“You’re the CEO’s wife now. You can do whatever you want.”
