Chapter 7
The next day at the office, my colleagues surrounded Grace from all sides, probing
for details.
Grace dodged every question with a coy smile.
“Stop making things up. It was just work, that’s all.”
“Where did I sleep? At home, obviously.”
“Why do you need to know where my home is? You’re being way too nosy.”
Reed, normally an ice king, emerged from his office. Despite clearly being annoyed
by the scene, he forced himself to make small talk with everyone.
I pretended not to care, turning my head to look out the window.
“Olivia.” His voice pulled my gaze back to him. “Come in for a minute.”
Inside his office, his fake smile vanished.
He slammed a stack of documents onto his desk with a loud THWACK.
“You knew Harlow Industries is off–limits to me. Why would you do this?”
I gave him a slight smile.
“Mr. Harlow, Harlow Industries is powerful and pays well. I’m just making the same
decision any working person would make.”
“Are you the same as them?”
“How am I different?”
He pointed toward the office outside, the corners of his eyes tinged with red. His
voice was controlled to the point of being hoarse.
Following his lead, I questioned him back without hesitation.
He froze for a moment, his tone oddly wounded.
“To you, is there… is there no difference between my company and all those
others?”
“Just like to you, I’m someone who needs a backup ready to replace me at any
moment. Naturally, I have to stay vigilant and secure my next position.”
The moment those words left my mouth, I silently cursed myself. Olivia, you’ve lost
your mind.
Reed was notorious for his vengeful nature.

No matter how resentful I felt, this was no time to offend him. I clenched my fist, preparing to grit my teeth and apologize. But while his face remained cold, his eyes suddenly softened.
