The moment I opened my Instagram, I saw Annes’s new feed that she had just posted two minutes ago.
She had uploaded two photos. One showed a bridal suite adorned with red decorations and the other was a screenshot of her updated contact list, she had changed Lennox’s name to “Baby’s Dad.”
Her caption read: “Such a shame that the baby wasn’t born in time to witness the happiest day of Mommy and Daddy’s lives. However, from now on, we’ll always be happy together. Please take care of us, Baby’s Dad!”
My fingers froze as I stared at the post, my emotions turned gloomy. As I was about to exit, I saw Lennox’s
comment beneath it. He just wrote a ‘hmm” there.
Even without words, it was a silent acceptance of his new title as the baby’s father.
As I looked at his name, I found all of this had become even more absurd.
At that moment, a dark thought crept into my mind. I wondered what Lennox would do if he found out that we once had a child together. What kind of expression would he wear then?
I hovered over his profile picture as I considered whether to remove him from my block list or not. However, after a moment’s hesitation, I closed the app.
No, I thought. If I was going to let go, I needed to do it completely.
I spent the next week exploring Levington State in a carefree manner before buying a return ticket unhurriedly.
However, when I finally arrived at my home and walked toward the door, I happened to bump into my neighbor.
She was just about to step out.
She looked surprised to see me and smiled warmly. “Oh, you’re back! Your boyfriend’s been coming around every day looking for you. Poor guy, he seemed so worried he was about to lose his mind. He was just here a little while ago, so you might still catch him if you hurry!”
I shook my head lightly and replied, “I don’t have a boyfriend anymore. If you see him again, do me a favor and
call security for me, okay? Thanks.”
After exchanging a few pleasantries, I opened the door and stepped into my apartment.
Before leaving for Levington State, I had had the locks changed, which was why Lennox couldn’t get inside.
I didn’t dwell on my neighbor’s words. After unpacking, I showered and got a good night’s sleep as I usually did.
The next morning, I arrived at the office refreshed and ready to work.
As soon as I walked through the door, one of my close colleagues rushed over toward me.
She glanced around to make sure no one was listening, then leaned in and whispered, “Hey, didn’t you take time off for your wedding? Why is your husband showing up here looking for you? He even asked me to call him if I saw you. Did something happen between you two?”
It seemed in the past few days I was gone, Lennox had been frequenting the office. When he didn’t find me, he
would go to my apartment to wait.
Her words didn’t stir even the slightest ripple in me. I kept my tone steady as I replied, “I wasn’t on weddin
leave. It was just my annual leave. And for the record, I’m single. We’ve broken up. He has nothing to do with me
anymore.”
“What?” Her jaw dropped. “You two were inseparable, so lovey–dovey all the time. How did this happen?”
She was just a colleague, not someone I owed personal explanations to. So, I just gave her a cursory answer,
“Sometimes, people just aren’t compatible.”
Sensing that I wasn’t in the mood to elaborate, she tactfully dropped the subject.
After work, I packed up my things and headed out. As I stepped outside, I immediately noticed Lennox’s car
parked by the curb.

Without hesitation, I turned and started walking in the opposite direction.
However, a familiar voice rang behind me, “Kelly!”
Lennox yelled anxiously, opened the car door and ran after me.
When he saw me, his face lit up with a mix of relief and joy, as if he’d found something he’d feared losing forever.
“Kelly, you’re back! I’ve missed you so much!” he said.
However, I wasn’t looking at him. My gaze shifted to his car, where Anne was seated in the passenger seat and
she was smiling at me.
However, if I looked closely, it was not really a smile. It had a hint of mockery in there.
So this is who he really is now? I thought bitterly. Now that everyone knows they’re married, they don’t even bother hiding it anymore.
