Chapter 15
Tyler led Kendall onto a private jet bound for Almonia. As they boarded, Kendall was awash with a gamut of feelings. Once inside, he looked around at the lavish upholstery, which made him feel restless.
He’d been born with a silver spoon. In Nord City, the Johnson family’s word was law, and no one dared go against them. However, that sense of superiority and privilege seemed to mean nothing to Tyler.
How was Isabel doing? What was her life like now?
Kendall had always been proud. This was the first time he had ever doubted himself.
The private jet finally landed at a private airport in Branada’s bay area after a long flight. A well–dressed butler greeted them with a respectful salute, and the chauffeur drove a globally limited–edition Rolls–Royce.
Tyler and Kendall were driven through a sprawling estate to arrive at the garden where Isabel was. There were tulips planted everywhere–they were her favorite. A soft breeze stirred, carrying the sweet scent to them.
Isabel sat on a swing with a cat in her lap, basking lazily in the sunlight. Beside her, Stephen Lodge–her father and the chairman of Medina Corporation -made coffee for her.
Helena Smith–Isabel’s mother and Stephen’s wife–held one of the cookies she’d baked to Isabel’s lips.
Isabel smiled brightly as the sun shone down on them. It was a sight that made the blooming tulips pale in comparison.
Kendall quietly watched them for a long time, unable to return to his senses. He couldn’t remember how long it had been since he’d last seen Isabel. When was the last time he’d seen her smile like that?
The joy and excitement of being reunited with her overwhelmed him, and he smiled. He straightened his clothes and puffed out his chest as he strode forward.
He believed that even if Isabel’s identity had changed, she was still the same on the inside. She was still the same woman who’d loved him for 11 years. “Izzy!” Kendall called her name in the gentlest tone he could muster.
He stopped before Isabel as she looked up and spread his arms to embrace her. However, she backed away, avoiding his touch.
