Chapter 17
Frank, Melinda, and Kimberly were stunned as they stared at the legally binding document.
Kimberly scoffed in disdain. “What kind of tantrum is Keira throwing now? So what if she wasn’t invited to the wedding? Did she really have to send this to Vincent on purpose?
“She’s just trying to make him think we treated her badly. She did this on purpose. If she heard that the wedding was called off, she’d probably be thrilled right now.”
Frank and Melinda thought what Kimberly said made sense. Their resentment toward Keira surged instantly.
Frank decided to call Keira and give her a scolding for being a brat. But all he heard was the cold, mechanical tone of the pre–recorded female voice saying the number couldn’t be reached. Beyond that, he got nothing.
So, Frank grew furious. “She won’t even pick up my call now? How insolent!”
Melinda found it hard to believe. So, she tried calling Keira herself. She discovered that, as Frank had said, Keira’s number was indeed unreachable.
“She really wants to cut ties with us for good. Since she’s caused me this much humiliation, why don’t we just kick her out of our family altogether!” Kimberly suggested coldly, believing that she should take advantage of the situation.
Frank and Melinda instantly agreed and even started discussing getting a lawyer to notarize the document. Only then did Kimberly let out a sigh of relief
When the three returned home, the sight of the wedding decorations that were put up instantly reignited Kimberly’s anger. She tore down every single one of them like a madwoman.
She didn’t even touch her dinner before locking herself in her room.
Frank and Melinda stood outside her room, their hearts aching with worry. They took turns trying to persuade her to eat
“Kimberly, you’ve been through so much today. You can’t slap dinner, sweetheart.”
“That’s right. No matter what has happened, at least come out and eat something”
After a long silence, Kimberly’s voice finally came from inside the room. “I don’t care! I want to marry Vincent! The wedding has already taken place. If I don’t marry him, I’ll become a laughingstock!
“Didn’t you say you had a way? Go figure it out for me right now!!
Left with no other choice, Frank and Melinda drove straight to the Slater residence. Before their car even pulled to a stop, several men in black suits came forward and blocked their way,
“This is private property. You can’t just barge in!”
The one who looked like the leader tapped his stun baton against the car window in warning.
Frank mustered his courage and stepped out of his car. “We’re not some random nobodies. We’re Mr. Slater’s future in–laws. I suggest you inform him that we’re here to see him. If Vincent finds out you turned us away, things won’t go well for you
He thought that the man would be intimidated by his remarks. But to his surprise, the man chuckled coldly and looked them over with a smirk.
“In–laws? Mr. Slater isn’t married. So, how could he have in–laws? They’re probably ithpostors. Get lost. Or else, I’ll have to use some force!” As he spoke, he waved the stun baton in the air.
Melinda wanted to retort, but she was so frightened that she fell silent immediately.
Unwilling to back down, Frank shouted toward the villa, “Vincent There’s a reason behind what happened with Kimberly. You have to let us explain!
“And besides, the whole city knows about the wedding now. If you cancel it, your family’s reputation will take a hit too!”
The guard moved in to stop him from making a ruckus. But just then, a man who looked like a butler rushed over and whispered a few words to him. The guard immediately let go of Frank and said disdainfully, “You got lucky. Mr. Slater says he’ll see you.”
“Me?” Frank pointed to himself.
“Yes. But she stays here and isn’t allowed to wander off,” the guard replied.
Melinda didn’t dare protest.
Frank, on the other Isind, followed the butler anxiously into the villa.
