Chapter 14
Simone couldn’t believe it. Even now, Cameron was still lying.
She looked down at him coldly, then asked calmly, “So you’re saying you only slept with Sylvia once, is that it?”
Cameron froze for a second, then quickly nodded. “Yes, yes, just that one time.
“Mona, please forgive me. I know I was wrong. I swear, it’ll never happen again.
“I was a victim too. Sylvia drugged me. If it weren’t for that, I would’ve betrayed you.”
The lies came out so easily.
Simone’s eyes grew colder. “Cameron, even now, you’re still trying to lie to me?
“You really think I only recorded it once? No! I recorded a lot! So much that the memory on the recorder was almost full!
“It only happened once? She drugged you? You’re lying! From beginning to end, all you’ve done is lie!”
The fury and disappointment that had been building inside her finally exploded. She raised her hand and slapped him hard.
The sound cracked through the air, and a bright red mark immediately spread across Cameron’s cheek
But he didn’t care. Still on his knees, he clung to Simone’s legs and pleaded, “Mona, don’t be mad. I was wrong. I really know I was wrong.
“You can hit me. Go ahead! Hit me as much as you want! Even if you beat me to death, I won’t complain!”
But his howling remorse only earned him her cold, unshaken gaze.
“No thanks,” Simone said flatly. “Hitting you would just dirty my hands.
“This is your final warning. Let go of me and disappear from my sight. If you don’t, I will call the police.”
“Mona, please don’t do this.” Cameron sobbed as he begged. “You can scold me or hit me, whatever you want. Just please! Please don’t leave me.
“If
you don’t want to touch me, fine. I’ll do it myself!”
With that, he started slapping himself.
“I’m disgusting! I’m pathetic! I’m not even human!” he shouted between the blows. “I broke every promise I made. I’m a worthless, cheating bastard!” One slap after another landed across his own face until it was covered in red, burning prints. But he didn’t stop. He hit himself harder, almost as if he believed he could beat the forgiveness out of her.
Simone just stood there watching him. She didn’t move or speak. She let him hit himself until his skin split and his face turned red, swollen, and wet with blood.
Only when his hands went numb and his face no longer registered the pain did Cameron finally stop.
“Mona,” he whispered, still on his knees. His voice was hoarse from crying. “Do you forgive me now? If not, I’ll keep going. I’ll keep slapping myself until you do!”
Simone didn’t answer. She calmly reached into her purse, took out her phone, and called the police.
“Mona, no, please don’t!” Cameron stumbled to his feet, trying to grab the phone from her hand. “Please don’t call the police. Don’t kick me out. Don’t push me away!
“You can’t do this! You can’t be this cruel to me!”
