Chapter 15
Simone was dying to ask Cameron if she was the cruel one, or if it was him.
After they tied the knot, who broke their vows and openly cheated right under her nose? Who abandoned her without looking back when she was at her lowest?
At that point, she was at her most vulnerable moment. She needed help and support.
On top of that, who bossed her around and ignored her well–being? He even made the nurse draw her blood with no mercy.
“You don’t have the right to ask for my forgiveness, Cameron,” Simone snapped before calling the police.
Ķiverton’s laws were solid. If a husband crossed his wife’s boundaries and threatened her safety, she could call the police, and they would arrest him right away.
Besides that, Simone and Cameron had divorced, so they were legally two separate individuals. The police acted fast and detained him.
He shouted, “Get off me! Let me go!”
Cameron was new to the country and hadn’t gotten used to the laws here. He was still trying to deal with the police like he would back home. “She is my wife. We’re family. What kind of police are you? Why are you messing with my family matters? Don’t make me file a complaint against you.”
Unfortunately, the officers couldn’t be bothered to argue with him and locked him up at the station. In the end, his man had to pay a hefty amount to bail him out.
After being bailed out, he still wouldn’t give up. The second he got out of jail, he was off to find Simone again.
Cameron’s man quickly stopped him and desperately tried to reason with him. “Listen to me, Mr. Kirk. You can’t go looking for Ms. Johnston again. “Kiverton’s laws are strict. She has already called the police once. If she does it again, they’ll slap an ankle monitor on you.
“If you’re wearing the ankle monitor, it’ll beep if you get too close to her, and the police will show up to arrest you immediately. At that point, you’ll never be able to see her again.”
Cameron was shaken by those words.
Feeling all worked up, he snapped, “What’s wrong with the laws abroad? They’re insane. Mona is my wife. Why can’t I get anywhere near her?”
His man sighed. “It is what it is. Kiverton’s laws are just like that. You should be patient. If you want to win Ms. Johnston back, take it one step at a time.” Cameron actually took the advice and didn’t disturb Simone that night. Instead, he spent some money to hire a lawyer to navigate the legal trouble. The lawyer explained to Cameron that Kiverton’s laws might be strict, but there were loopholes. He would only end up with an ankle monitor if he were convicted of harassment.
However, being charged with harassment required solid proof, like inappropriate physical contact or sending creepy texts.
Cameron was pretty sharp and caught on right away. “Basically, I just need to avoid any physical contact with Mona and not send her any texts. Without any written evidence, the police can’t charge me with harassment.”
The lawyer nodded, agreeing with Cameron. “That’s right. If nothing is on record, it’s not harassment.”
That was enough to ease Cameron’s mind. He decided to stay in Kiverton and try to win Simone over again.
It might be a bit tricky, but he just needed to stay respectful, keep his distance, and treat Simone like a gentleman would. That way, the police wouldn’t bother him again.
He believed he could make Simone fall for him all over again and win her back.
