Chapter 17
The next morning, Cameron was up early as usual, looking sharp with a bouquet of roses in his hand as he waited downstairs at Simone’s apartment for her to show up.
It didn’t take long before she showed up. He greeted her, looking dashing as always. “Good morning, Mona. That long dress looks great on you. It complements your skin tone perfectly.
“I grabbed you some breakfast. I used to get you pasta, but you didn’t like it and threw it away.
“But this time, I actually put some thought into it. Since you’ve been in Kiverton for so long, you must be tired of pasta now.
“I woke up early today and went straight to the food trucks to get you some pastries. I got your favorite empanadas and croissants. They’re still hot, try them now.”
As Cameron spoke, he handed Simone a blue lunchbox with a proud smile. Inside the lunchbox were piping hot empanadas and croissants.
Previously, when he handed her breakfast, she wouldn’t even spare a glance at it, let alone reach out to take it. But this time, after a few seconds of hesitation, she actually grabbed the lunchbox.
Seeing this, he got all worked up. When she took the lunchbox, he felt like she was starting to soften up.
so
Cameron was delighted. All his relentless effort over the past few days had paid off. After all, Simone was willing to eat the breakfast he prepared for her. With a little more effort and persistence, he would definitely succeed in winning her back.
He was pumped on the inside, but he kept a calm and collected demeanor. He even humbly said, “Don’t worry, Mona. I know you’re just craving pastries, and that you haven’t forgiven me yet.
“Trust me on this. I won’t read too much into it. I know that what I’ve done wrong can’t be fixed by just a meal.
“I’m willing to spend the rest of my life trying to make things right with you. I don’t expect you to forgive me. As long as you don’t turn me away and are willing to see me again, I’ll be content.”
Those words were quite heartbreaking. Most women would tear up upon hearing something like that.
But Simone knew deep down that this wasn’t Cameron’s true feelings. He just knew how to say the right thing. She had already fallen for his sweet talk once, and she wasn’t going to be fooled again.
She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. Then, she said with a blank expression, “I can forgive you, but only if you promise me one thing, Cameron.”
He quickly asked, “What would that be? If you can forgive me, I would do a hundred things for you.”
Hearing that, she giggled and replied slowly, “That’s too much. One promise is enough.”
Just then, a fancy sports car pulled up in front of Simone. A Kiverton local, looking even more stunning than a supermodel, got out of it.
She pulled him closer and grinned. “Let me introduce you to Wilbur Copeland, a friend I made in Kiverton.
“When I first got to Kiverton, I had a car accident. I was all alone in a foreign place and freaking out. Thankfully, Wilbur passed by and rushed me to the hospital. That’s how I survived.
“Wilbur’s grandma is on her deathbed, and her last wish is to hold her grandson before she goes. He is looking for a wonian to have a child for him. “He is my lifesaver, and I owe him my life. If you’re okay with me having a child with him, I’ll marry you again, Cameron.”
