Chapter 27
With Cameron being taken by the police, Simone decided to end her fling with Wilbur.
That night, Simone went to find Wilbur and said to him with a grin, “My ex–husband has been arrested, so I’m finally free. You don’t need to provide special services for me anymore. You’ve worked hard during this time. Here’s your payment.”
With that, she pulled out a check and handed it to him. The number on it was pretty staggering.
But when he took it, he wasn’t happy at all. He pouted and muttered, “We’ve been doing this for three months, Mona. Don’t you have any feelings for me?

That question left her speechless. After thinking for a bit, she earnestly replied, “Feelings aren’t something you can just force through sleeping together, Wilbur. They’re developed from spending time together.
“You’re a nice guy and good in bed, but we’ve spent all three months just in bed with no real connection. How could there be any feelings?”
Hearing that, Wilbur blinked and cautiously asked, “Are you open to dating me,
(
Mona?”
Simone was taken aback. She turned to Wilbur in disbelief. “What did you just say?”
He mustered up his courage and confessed to her. “I really like you, Mona. Would you consider going out with me?”
Fearing she wouldn’t take him seriously, he hurriedly added, “I’m serious, Mona. I really fell for you, and I’m not the type to mess around. I only did it for you because I have feelings for you.
“After spending three months together, I feel like we’re a great match. Can you give me a chance to date you? I promise I won’t let you down.”
His heartfelt confession was met with nothing more than a gentle sigh from her.
Simone responded, “Thank you for liking me, but I’m not ready for a relationship at the moment, Wilbur. Cameron’s betrayal hit me hard, and I might not believe in love for a long time. I’m not interested in dating anymore.
“I’m really sorry, but I can’t accept your feelings. Even if I pushed myself, I wouldn’t be able to love you wholeheartedly. That wouldn’t be fair to you.” Wilbur wasn’t ready to give up. He clenched his fists and said confidently, “Don’t speak too soon, Mona. Love isn’t something you can control just like
that.
“I believe I can make you love me with all your heart, so don’t turn me down so fast. Let’s
least give it a shot.
“If you can’t fall for me, I’ll walk away. But right now, we haven’t even started dating yet, and you’re rejecting me. I can’t accept that.”
Wilbur wouldn’t give up, so Simone reluctantly agreed to give it a shot. She thought young people’s feelings didn’t last long. After chasing her for a while without getting anything in return, he would probably give up on
his own.
But she didn’t expect him to remain incredibly persistent. His passion for her never died down. It burned
as bright as day one.
Plus, he was cheerful and knew how to make her laugh. When she was with him, she would always forget all her worries without even trying.
As time passed, Simone began to fall for the bright and cheerful Wilbur.
Everything turned out just as he had said. Love wasn’t something she could control. When fate arrived, nobody could stop it.
Meanwhile, after Cameron was released from prison, he attempted to pursue Simone a few more times. Eventually, he was deported from Kiverton and permanently banned from entering the country.
After being sent back to his home country, Cameron seemed to have been shaken by his experiences with Simone, and his mental state started to deteriorate.
Caleb was dead, and Cameron had gone mad. The whole situation left Richard and Madeline bawling their eyes out.
On the other hand, after Cameron made Sylvia have the abortion, she left the Kirk family. She took some time to recover and then got married.
It was her second marriage, and the trauna from the abortion left her unable to get pregnant easily. So, her second marriage didn’t go well, and it seemed like retribution had caught up with her.
After five years of a loving romance, Simone and Wilbur finally tied the knot.
At last, she finally had a home where she was valued, accepted, and genuinely loved. After everything she had been through, she finally found her way to true happiness.
