Chapter 12
As soon as Ruben saw Estelle, his eyes turned red immediately. It had been exactly seven months—214 days to be exact — that he’d been dreaming of reuniting with her one day. But now that he finally saw her again, he suddenly dared not move.
He was afraid that it would turn out to be a dream after all if he moved from his position. He was also afraid of seeing the coldness and hatred in Estelle’s
eyes.
“Estelle…” he whimpered in a low voice.
Estelle just spared him a brief glance before giving Asher a cold glare.
Asher had always been the top leader in the world of business, and he was usually the one giving others a hard time. But now, he was just getting a taste of his own medicine.
He coughed awkwardly and said, “I told Ruben to come over since your emotions have stabilized lately. It was wrong for him to cheat on you in your marriage, but you’re also in the wrong for faking your death. Now, I hope that you’ll both talk it out as calmly as possible.”
Estelle chuckled coldly. “Calmly? Asher Daye, let’s say you were to get married in the future, and your wife cheated on you and had two kids with another man. She even kept it a secret from you for two whole years, even continuously having sex somewhere you and her first proposed. Would you still be able to face everything in a calm manner?”
Asher had nothing to say about that. Meanwhile, Ruben lowered his head in guilt, his face pale and white.
“Ruben Daye,” Estelle continued. “I faked my death because I didn’t want to have anything to do with you anymore. But since you’ve found me out now, then let me set the record straight. There is absolutely no way for us to ever get back together, so stop getting any ideas in your head.
“Don’t think that you’ll somehow earn my forgiveness and get back together with me if you just continue pestering me like this.”
She went silent for a short while. Then, she said, “I was right outside the door when you and Louisa were fucking like rabbits at The Skyloft. I will never forget it for the rest of my life. For old times‘ sake, please stop appearing within my sight. Every time I see you now I’ll think of that day, and it’s making me want to throw up.”
Ruben’s face was ashen. He rushed over to Estelle and grabbed her hand, anxiously saying, “I was wrong! You can punish me however you want! You can even kill me if it makes you feel any better! But you can’t leave me! Estelle, I can’t live without you. I’d rather die instead!”
Estelle withdrew her hand. “Why would I want your life? I don’t care how you live your life. It’s got nothing to do with me at all.”
She suddenly laughed. “Louisa gave you twins. I thought your whole family knew about it and even accepted her and the babies as part of them. Since you already have a family waiting for you at home, you could just go back to her and live your happy life again.”
Ruben grabbed Estelle’s hand again, trying to explain himself. “I’ve already broken up with her! I’m not seeing her anymore! Please, I’m begging you… Please give me a chance to make it up to you!”
He couldn’t care less about his ego or dignity anymore and fell to his knees to grovel at her feet.
Estelle grabbed him and said, “Do you not understand a single word I said? I said it’s impossible for us to ever get back together! So stop trying to badger me like this because it’s all pointless!”
“I can’t… I can’t live without you!” Ruben cried, sobbing so much that his words were incoherent.
Asher stood by the side and sighed. He was only three years older than Ruben, but still, he’d watched him grow up since he was young and had never seen Ruben act in such a pathetic way before.
On the other hand, Estelle was so frustrated by Ruben’s crying that she flung him aside, grabbed Asher by the collar, and kissed him forcefully on the lips, ignoring the shocked and confused look in his eyes.
Ruben’s cries stopped at once. He was completely shell–shocked.
“We can never, ever get back together because I’ve already fallen for your uncle.”
Asher’s eyes narrowed at once.
