Chapter 14
“You’re staying here? Fine. Then, I’m leaving,” Estelle said.
She’d just taken a step away when Ruben said calmly, “If you disappear from my life again, then I will make sure that Cassie, your other friends in the country, and your mentor will never see the day of light again.”
Estelle froze. “Ruben Daye! You’re such a shameless bastard!”
“I didn’t want to do this,” he replied while chopping up some more ingredients. This time, however, he accidentally sliced his finger, and he stared at it for a long while. He’d never done such a thing before.
Still, he continued after that. “But that’s the simplest and most effective way, isn’t it?”
Estelle didn’t bother answering him, and the entire mansion fell hush.
Very quickly, Ruben finished cooking up something else and brought it to her. But Estelle had lost all her appetite and she also didn’t want to see him for another second longer, so she went upstairs straightaway to go to bed.
Ruben brought the food up to her. “Are you tired? Eat something before you go to sleep.”
Estelle pulled the covers over her head. “Get out.”
“Okay. I’ll make you food again when you’re hungry,” he said, going back down with the food before coming back up again. Then, he climbed into bed, lay down beside her, and hugged her from the back, his left arm firmly circling around her waist.
“What the hell are you doing? Let go! Don’t touch me!” Estelle exclaimed, struggling hard.
“Don’t move, love. Let me hug you,” he said, hugging her tightly as he rested his chin on her shoulder, sighing in satisfaction.
It had been seven months, and he was finally holding the person he loved the most in his arms once again. Finally, he felt as though his soul had returned to his body. It had been a long time since he felt like this, and his eyes couldn’t help but turn red.
He said in a soft voice, “Estelle, I’ve missed you. I’ve really, really missed you.”
Estelle suddenly stopped struggling.
She suddenly felt very sad. Ruben loved her. But if he really loved her that much, then why did he have to cheat on her? Why did he have to personally ruin the relationship that they’d spent so long building together?
He knew that this was bound to happen, so why did he still do it?

“Ruben, I will never be able to forgive or forget the fact that you cheated on me. We can’t ever get back together. So, what’s the point of you doing this? Can’t we just end things on a good note?”
Ruber, didn’t answer her. Instead, he just held her even closer than
ever.

When the moon rose in the sky, Ruben finally let go of her. “I know that you don’t want to see me again. I’ll be sleeping in the guest bedroom.”
He leaned down, meaning to give Estelle a good night kiss as he used to in the past, but he suddenly thought better of it and straightened up once again. ” Good night.”
Ruben left the room. However, Estelle couldn’t sleep all night. She’d only managed to get some sleep when it was almost dawn. Yet, close to noon, phone suddenly started ringing loudly, waking her from her sleep.
“You… Why aren’t you at the company today?”
Estelle took a moment to get her bearings before realizing that Asher was the one calling her. She wasn’t in a good mood. “So what if I’m not there? What’s that got to do with you? Do I need to report to you every single time? Don’t you have anything better to do?”
Asher was taken aback by the sudden accusatory questions. He was just about to say something when Estelle hung up on him.
He stared at the red telephone icon on his screen and felt so mad that he started to laugh.

Was he out of his mind? Estelle had never shown any interest in anything he did, so why did he have to be such a busybody and ask her where she was simply because he was concerned about her?
All he got in return was a slap in the face from her.
